I'm in the anti Gus camp as well, I like some enthusiasm but only when its warranted. Gus is great on exciting plays but he's awful the rest of the game. He's more well versed in catch phrases than he is strategy or whats going on in the game. They just need to keep him in a studio somewhere, he's more suited for highlights.

another hater that doesn't listen to full games he calls. It's not like he phones it in until it gets interesting, he is good the whole time. The fact that he is memorable at the end of close games does not mean he's sub-par a the rest.

Wow I can't believe the Gus haters! Has he ever done an ISU game before? I will be exited watching the replay after I see us tear up UT.

Haha, I've taken days off of work for the first 4 rounds of the NCAA tourney for the last 6 years. I've heard the guy call a game, he called for a team to foul in the closing seconds of a tie game last tourney...the guy is a hacky, Stuart Scott wannabe.I'll take guys who know the game every time over a rehearsed gimmick. At first I thought the cult following he had was like a Chuck Norris sort of joke.

to each their own. I understand how Gug Johnson is now "Gus Johnson" and we can play it up more, but I still would take more stalk in what he says during a game knowing his style.

Gus is not anywhere near as bad as Stuart Scott, but he's gotten much worse over the last few years. There's not drama in every game but he tries to force it in. His call of the BYU-Florida sweet sixteen game this year was just brutal. He was terrible throughout the game and it feels like he focuses more on getting his catchphrases in than following the action sometimes.

I don't ever recall him doing an ISU game. Was he even prominent at March Madness back when ISU actually played in the thing?

I'm guessing no, since there's been only 3 games in 11 freaking years.

Don't even get me started on how pathetic that is.

It'd be fun to hear him call a game and see how it sounds when "my team" is involved.

WOW. Anybody who likes Stuart Scott over Gus Johnson seriously should get their head examined. You cheer for ghetto cyclops, while 99% of the world likes Gus.

Gus Johnson could never hold the towel used to wipe up the sweat dripping from Keith Jackson's compression shorts.

Just because he (Keith) did not go bonkers when Vince Young ran in the touchdown in one of the greatest college football games ever is testament to that fact. The moment was fine on its own. No flamboyant call would make it any better. It's what an announcer who has true journalistic qualities does. If you want flashy catch phrases, etc, watch X Factor.
