It's easy to convince yourself that we have some chance through connections at other universities for the B10, but don't kid yourself....likely a .0001% chance.

If ISU joined the big 10, I would be the happiest fan ever!

Its not blaming Iowa, its blaming those that care about Iowa State's future, individuals can write letters to the Governor, the Senators, the Representatives, the Editor, individuals can hold people like Mark Hansen and Mike Hlas for writing uniformed and non-chalant pieces about Iowa State's future, individuals can criticize the Des Moines Register for writing "an investigative piece" about Iowa State but not put any real effort into reporting on Iowa State's future and painting the very real picture that conference realignment based on football dollars alone HURTS the state economy as a whole, yet we see little if any of this. Do your part, write those for whom you vote and be heard on this. If hundreds or thousands do it, it will make an impact, even if doesn't change the ultimate outcome, at least we will have done what we can as fans that love Iowa State University

Re: This Will Unravel Fast

That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying asking people if we would help out Iowa if we were in the same situation - not a fair hypothetical.

Just imagine if the Big 10 were breaking apart. It's not a stretch to see where Iowa would be left out of realignment. There are many schools in the Big 10 that would bring more (population and TVs) to a different conference than would Iowa.

Actually, this is exactly the same reason that I hear Iowa fans argue that they have no clout with their conference. So, if they have no clout with their current conference, why would they be a big draw for another conference?

We make sense in the Big 10 in every way other than adding tv sets. Unfortunately, that is the only thing that matters.

Here is an article from the NY Post. Read it all. ISU is mentioned, but it appears that blurb probably refers to last year:

College conference expansion spiking - NYPOST.com
The ripple effect of Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 could impact the Big East, which had an understanding to take Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State and possibly Iowa State should the Big 12 collapse.

The Big East, which has added TCU for next season, could be more selective and try to lock up just Missouri and Kansas, with their storied basketball program. Central Florida remains an option as well.

Big East commissioner John Marinatto did not immediately return calls. But he said at the league's media day that any and all options would be considered. That seems to be the mindset now throughout college football.
I would add that I am pretty familiar with instances where ISU has been mentioned, and not, and I doubt anyone should read much into that (and other similar mentions or non-mentions).

Had there been contact with ISU this year or last, I just can't imagine JP confirming that with anyone. In contrast, I think the KC reporter last year was able to get direct confirmation with the schools down there. He also reported ISU at least once, right at the end, but I believe that was from his local schools, not ISU. Neither would I want to suggest that it will happen, even if it would have last year, in part simply because things change.

Personally, I am still optimistic ISU will remain BCS, but that is just a hunch. As the article says, there are a lot of moving pieces so it is all speculation right now.

JP=
Chizik (not great here, but wins NC @ Auburn)
Cael (good here, wins NC @ PSU)
Fennelly lifetime contract
CJ-L and the rise of the VB program
Extensive facility upgrades (including BB practice facility, FB upgrades, JTS upgrades including the awesome new board)
Complete rebranding of the athletics department
And...CPR. Enough said. Not perfect (see GMac)...but don't worry. He's got it.

GG=
Connections to Jischke (Purdue), Spanier (PSU, ISU grad), Smith (OSU AD), U of I admin, influential political figures (Harkin/Grassley)

We fit the mold of a B1G university in every way except TV sets. AAU, good enrollment, excellent campus, within the geographic footprint, supportive fan base with similar attendance and success to other institutions (NW, Purdue, Minn). Is it crazy to think that with all of these connections, it might be possible (not likely, I know) that we could be on our way to a "VERY good conference"?

I'm hoping Big East, crying in thinking about the MWC, and would sink into a deep depression with anything worse, resulting in generally becoming angry at the world. But for now, let's try to remain hopeful that JP and GG are going to find a way for this to work out! :yes:

remember you are forgetting we may have Gene at OSU on our side too....

Gene Smith isn't going to do ****. Neither is Iowa, nor Tom Osborne and Nebraska. We will never be in the Big 10. I wish we could get in, but it will never ever happen.

another day gone and no clarity for ISU, why do I keep hanging out here...its not like the future will be revealed here yet I still check to see the latest tweets from the talking twits and read the links that never seem to have any positive news for the Clones...maybe tomorrow will be different, or next week, or next month...for tonight, we are still in an AQ Conference... Go State

A few conference expansion nuggets: 1) Nothing happens with the Pac-12 and UT-OU until A&M to the SEC becomes official. (Tue or Wed).

@PeteThamelNYT

Nugget #2 Oklahoma reached out to the Pac-12 more than two weeks ago. This wasn't sudden.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
Nugget 3) Larry Scott did NOT go zip around Big 12 country and meet with schools while in Dallas area for ORE-LSU.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
4) Texas State Senator Judith Zaffirini told me: “I don’t see that happening at all at this pointâ€￾ in regards to legislative involvement.

@PeteThamelNYT

5) The Big East has reached out to multiple Big 12 universities and offered a soft landing in case Big 12 folds.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
6) For Texas to go, they'd need to "fold" TT to their network to fit Pac-12 model. This is feasible, as ESPN and Pac-12 have good rapport.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
7) The Pac-12 presidents haven't discussed UT-OU-TT-OSU. There's a chance -- and I don't know how much of one -- they may have no interest.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
8) There's no clear answer to the question: "Would the Pac-12 take OU-OSU without UT-TT?" Why? See previous tweet.

Re: This Will Unravel Fast

So, you don't think that it would be any benefit at all for Iowa to show support for Iowa State in any way? Even if it were in generating support among leadership within the State of Iowa (political, business, and media)?

I guess I don't see where you are headed. You just don't want anybody to be on our side?

No, what he is saying is that ginning up a false reason to hate the u doesn't make any sense. There are many many many reasons to hate their idiot fans. This is reaching.

People need to accept the fact that we are powerless in this deal, and there is no soft landing. We just have to hope that the overall damage to the AD will be as minimal as possible.

I get that this sucks, and I wish it wasn't true. But the reality is that we are not in control of our own fate here.

Truth. We actually put a quick website together with all the reasons we fit; at least as many as we could come up with over a week or so. I don't know if I even have the heart to try again.

ISU to Big 10 - IS****ig10.com

[^fyi, I'm new here and I have no idea why it's breaking up my link.]

But, we left if up if anyone cares.
