A few conference expansion nuggets: 1) Nothing happens with the Pac-12 and UT-OU until A&M to the SEC becomes official. (Tue or Wed).

@PeteThamelNYT

Nugget #2 Oklahoma reached out to the Pac-12 more than two weeks ago. This wasn't sudden.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
Nugget 3) Larry Scott did NOT go zip around Big 12 country and meet with schools while in Dallas area for ORE-LSU.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
4) Texas State Senator Judith Zaffirini told me: “I don’t see that happening at all at this pointâ€￾ in regards to legislative involvement.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
5) The Big East has reached out to multiple Big 12 universities and offered a soft landing in case Big 12 folds.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
6) For Texas to go, they'd need to "fold" TT to their network to fit Pac-12 model. This is feasible, as ESPN and Pac-12 have good rapport.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
7) The Pac-12 presidents haven't discussed UT-OU-TT-OSU. There's a chance -- and I don't know how much of one -- they may have no interest.

@PeteThamelNYT
Pete Thamel
8) There's no clear answer to the question: "Would the Pac-12 take OU-OSU without UT-TT?" Why? See previous tweet.

As for Big 10 and Texas, Delany said yesterday he's not going to be reactive. There's a dueling network problem, too.

What he said and the way he said it made me feel much better about our situation.

Chris Williams asked him what Iowa State's future would be. Jamie said that he knows the answer to the question, but cannot say at this time. Jamie went on to say that we should all take our hands "off the panic button". He said that most of the "talk" out there is just talk. Finally, he said that he is confident that Iowa State will end up in a VERY good conference.

He has also said for the past two weeks that the remaining 9 are solid and there is no reason to worry about all the speculation about the Big 12 falling apart. I think he is just showing confidence to make the rest of us feel better. I can't knock him for that because that is what leaders do.

That is not JP's MO. I think that his statement about ending up in a VERY GOOD CONFERENCE and the following paragraph from Pete Thamel's column are related.

"A high-ranking college official did say Sunday that the Big East had reached out to multiple Big 12 universities and indicated, much as it did during the Texas-Pac-12 expansion talks last year, that the league would be interested in taking the universities if the Big 12 fell apart. The official said the Big East was not rooting for the demise of the Big 12, but opened up lines of communication in case it dissolved."

Maybe, maybe not. He could know something such as Big East invite, to remaining B12 schools like KU, K-state and us.

Or maybe, he knows that UT and ND are going to form a conference called the big 8 and they have invited: ISU, KU, KSU, BU, MU, and BYU. All teams will play 7 conference games and have full scheduling and broadcast authority for their other 5 games.

I remember JP's comments from last year and while he said it was not time to panic, he did speak to the gravity of the situation and its possible impact on Iowa State's future AD revenue. I have a great deal of trust in JP and his leadership. These comments give me some comfort.

Gene Smith isn't going to do ****. Neither is Iowa, nor Tom Osborne and Nebraska. We will never be in the Big 10. I wish we could get in, but it will never ever happen.

If there is some driving reason for the "4" leagues to be 18-20 instead of 16, ISU would most likely be in the Big Ten.

That reason would likely be a lawsuit, but that lawsuit would have very good grounds if BCS teams and teams like BYU are relegated to a lesser division.

Imagine the Big Ten, ACC, SEC and Pac 12 all expand to 16, they leave out maybe 5-10 schools that have previously been in the BCS leagues or like BYU/BSU that are obviously BCS level of play, tradition, facilities, etc. Really 20-30 teams could make a great legal case. They simply need to point to schools like Duke and Washington State that are clearly worse in many ways as football programs compared to 15-30 schools that get left out.

The Big Ten would have already grabbed Notre Dame and a few new markets. Of what is left they'd practically be begging to add the AAU school located in the middle of 3-4 of their other schools in order to comply with any kind of legal settlement. The Big Ten taking ISU is a much closer match than the Pac 16 having to take Boise State and BYU for a number of reasons, but that's the fight they could face if they try this 4x16 nonsense.

There's a good chance there's no conference to enforce those penalties when all is said and done.

There has to be a vote to disband the conference. I'm not sure the numbers needed. If that happens, no exit fees.

Had a good laugh at this post over on tigerboard.com:

It's gonna be pretty funny when ISU is the last one standing and they get $300 million in "exit fees" from the other 10 schools.

There are a few threads over there debating ISU's worth to remain in a major conference, including this other one.

Also, if the chances of landing in a major conference were based on quality of the fan web sites, ISU should be way above Mizzou based on CycloneFanatic vs tigerboard.

B-12 is Dead

Now Okla is contemplating a move. That will happen as will OK-State, Mo, Ks. ISU
should move soon as it is painfully obvious it's over. And may Texas rot in hell. The big bully drove the league into oblivion and its a shame as the league could have been one of the 4 super conferences.
