I don't expect Iowa to do anything to help. For those that think they will even promote Iowa State to the Big 10 conference, you may want to think twice.
What he said and the way he said it made me feel much better about our situation.

I would think they have a little pull... along with our Geoffrey/Jiskhe/Pollard connections, this would be a no-brainer add if it did not deal with money.
What these super conferences do not realize, is that with 16 schools, you need a few more schools to beat up on the bottom. Some good schools will turn to bottom feeders.
I don't expect this new experiment to last long. While ISU has been in this situation recently and been at the bottom of the conference, it is part of the fun of things and make the good times so much better.
I agree that the UofI has no power to help us, but it would be fricking nice if either they or our state politicos cared enough about us to at least make some sort of symbolic stance like "we think isu deserves a spot in the big10 and will lobby for that cause." They dont have to threaten to walk to show some unity. For gods sake, i know we are the in state rival to gods greatest creation of all time the iowa hawkeyes but that doesnt mean we arent worth A LOT to this state and its people. I bet we graduate more undergrad IOWANS than any other school in this state considering the UofI is 30% illinois residents.

I do agree there should be more public outrage and politicking around Iowa State's future, I saw Grassley was at the Iowa State Volleyball game...use the cards we have, Harkin and Grassley are two, a third is the U of Iowa, a fourth is a strong Academic Tradition, a fifth is a media that should care about Iowa State as their fans represent a relatively strong percentage of their customers. Maybe it wouldn't mean anything, but I am tired of reading about texas politicians, ou presidents, etc. I want to see a story about how Chuck Frickin Grassley is calling for an investigation into Conference Realignment, Tax Status, etc. I want to see articles about how Iowa State is superior to Nebraska academically but the Big 10 chose Football, I want to see quotes from Iowa's Pres that they would prefer Iowa State over anyone else...

So, you don't think that it would be any benefit at all for Iowa to show support for Iowa State in any way? Even if it were in generating support among leadership within the State of Iowa (political, business, and media)?

If you had Iowa, Wisconsin and Penn State pushing for it...I'd give it a better shot. But to say it's not happening only because Iowa won't throw a hissy fit about it is a little ridiculous.
I know this is bat **** crazy thinking but I think Iowa and Nebby would come to bat for us if it meant an AQ school or being left out in the cold. I know we dont bring anything but we would actually make sense as a Big ten fit. I know I am reaching for slim strings but I think both Universities would look out for us.
And Pollard has good connections along with Gene Smith at OSU

Actually, I remember reading some stats a couple years ago that showed exactly your point. More IOWANS graduate from Iowa State than any other university.
If I was Iowa, I would think ISU would be a better fit than a Missouri as they play us anyway and do well in the games. If not us, then whom? Minnesota, Nebby, and Wiscy would not mind playing us. We are still AAU unlike some Big Ten members. This may not be an eyeball call.

I think some people here think that the relationship of the fan bases is exactly the same all the way through the academic system all they way to the presidents, when that really isn't the case.
There's much more collaboration/cooperation than they like to believe.
