Conclussions from tonight.
1. DG is not a top Big 12 guard that knows how to play in the clutch. Stupid decisions, bad passes, missed shots.
2. Defense looks lost. JVB can't guard a post. We can't figure out how to guard a ROLL player that went off for 38 points. We make stupid fouls. See DG as an example in first half.
3. This team does have some fight left in it. Being down 15 and taking a 5 point lead. Unfortunately this team shouldn't of been down that much to this team and come out looking lost.
4. Our fans lack common sense. Talk of players leaving without evidence. Just body language. Transfers, transfering 2 times losing yet another year. DUH....... Get a grip people. We have 7 players that play. Reason why. Railey isn't good enough for the Big 12 RIGHT NOW. And McKnight or whatever his name is, should be redshirting. Bubu is a walk-on who lost confidence in his shot and can only play defense. Heck he is even worse then Sean Haluska at shooting.
5. Next year can't come soon enough. That said. It is year 1 of Freddie... He will make mistakes and learn from them. He is playing against Big 12 with the talent = JV High School Basketball. JVB needs to be benched. Ejim and Godfrey need to start.
6. JVB looks exactly like goat boy from snl skits. Seriously look at him.

You made it easier on me. Now I don't have to post those things. I thought maybe I was overreacting.
I don't think we'll finish 1-15, though ... my modest 5-11 prediction doesn't look very promising.
And I thought that was being too pessimistic — with home games against NU, Colorado, Baylor, Tech and OU, I didn't think 5 wins would be a stretch.
Then again, KSU appears far worse than I thought — I wasn't silly enough to predict they'd win the conference, as so many experts did. But at least we have two games to play vs. the Wildcats. Excellent chance to lose a couple more close ones.
And that makes things all the more frustrating. The Big 12 is terrible. We had a chance to do some good things this year, especially with the 13-2 start. If the guys didn't look lost and confused the first ten minutes and last three minutes of every single game, we could so very easily be 5-2 right now. If we could just finish games we'd be 4-3. So incredibly disappointing.
I'll let somebody more bored and statistically inclined that me look this up, but I imagine the difference in our scoring margin in the first and last ten minutes vs the middle twenty is incredible.
Maybe we have to suffer through this crap this year so we get all the breaks next season. At least that's what I'll keep telling myself.
I just don't understand how we've gotten to where we are right now...

For those completely melting down, could you please explain why ISU should win any Big 12 games with a roster of 7 scholarship players, most of whom would see only limited minutes on any other Big 12 team?
1. they had a 6 point lead with 3:30 minutes left in the game
2. They had the ball with a tie and 35.4 seconds left on the clock.
I think those are both good reasons ISU should have won the game.

At what point does the coaching staff stop looking at the players during game film when trying to decide what they could have done differently and start looking at themselves and what they could do differently? It seems like our opponents are more confident than we are at the end of the game. Yes, we've ****** multiple games away the last 2 minutes this year, but why do our coaches and players look like they are defeated already when our lead is starting to close late in a game?
And GOD DAMN IT! How many times do we need to watch a lead evaporate in the last minute with 2 time outs on the board. WE ARE IN CONTROL OF THE GAME! WE HAVE THE LEAD. CALL THE DAMN TIME OUT AND MAKE THEM PLAY OUR GAME TO WIN!
Also JVB made how many baskets tonight, and how many minutes did Jordan play. Just checking?

I guess i'm glad i care again. Under mcdermott it seemed to just be 'just another loss'. Apathy had completely set in.
This is getting harder to take though. Got to that last minute and i said 'we've seen this movie before'... i dont know how we can be so awful in the first few and last few minutes of games.

I will say this: I didn't watch the game. I looked at the stat line and that's it. We let a guy go for 38. That's pathetic. It should never happen. I know our team is under manned, but that's ridiculous. There is no excuse for playing with Kansas and getting beat like we have gotten beat.
At first i thought I was on the fawkeye forums. You all are pathetic whiners, get a grip. We knew coming into this season that we were not going to be very good this season. I'm sorry that our team has done good enough to raise all expectations in mid season, only play good teams to the wire and loose. The big12 is one of, if not, the best conference in the nation. Some talk of how could it possibly get worse than this = getting blown out and not even being in the game could be worse. People talking of Ejim transferng... pisss off, everybody was calling for him to sit on the bench and then he comes out and has a great game and everybody always looks for the negative in everything. Bad coaching........ well duh! He's a first year coach. Its common sense. Coaches learn just like players do. These experiances that CFH is going through will only help us next season, and hopefully for the next few decades. I'm just glad we're seeing some emotion out of Freddy. I'm not sure what everybody was smoking, in the middle of the season we can't expect a cinderella story. Good things come quickly, great things take time (just ask drake and uni). I'm proud of our team and coach. And yes i am very upset about the win loss ratio with the probability of success with our last few min. sense B12 season started. But it takes a lot out of these guys, and they do play with heart! If you wanna **** and moan, do it to your wife (or husband, or cat - for all you weird-o's), or don't watch the game!

You asked, I'll complain. There is no reason - NO REASON - for anyone to start saying "aw shucks nobody thought we'd win anyway.. we're lucky to even be in games in the big bad Big 12." That's three games that we've had late leads, had the game completely under control, and lost. This isn't a throwaway season with the worst team in the Big 12. This is a what could have been season if we were 4-3 (even 5-2) in conference. Analyze the stats all you want. All that matters is we've completely blown three conference games we should have won. Not could have - should have. If we were losing these games by 20, then OK, I'd say we're bad and chalk it up to circumstances. We're not bad. We choke, plain and simple. I'm sick of it. Learn to f---ing win.
For the record - I still believe in Fred. But McDermott was the master of putting teams in position to win and then having them play shell-shocked for the last 4 minutes. I hope Fred's teams get better (and I think they will), because in this conference you figure out how to close games out or you just don't win.
And besides, I think Fred is as frustrated as any of us. I doubt he's chalking up close losses to lack of depth or anything else.
Don't think I've ever left a game this angry. The refs were awful but we still should have closed out the game. We've lost too many close ones that should have gone the other way. Realistically, you should win half of the games that are within 1-4 points with less than 2 minutes left. We're like 1-6 in close games and that's even if you count the fluke buzzer beater by Vanderbeken. We have absolutely NO clutch players. We need a go-to guy down the stretch not named DG(he's had his chances and still plays poor during crunchtime). Ejim might be that guy, but we don't know, everyone is way too young and inexperienced to count on them to come up big in the clutch. I sure hope that our players are learning a whole lot from these close losses or else we might be in trouble come next year when we're competing in games against the likes of KU, Texas, and Mizzou.
Also, is there any point to giving Vanderbeken so many minutes anymore? He'll be outta here next year so why not give Railey and Godfrey more playing time to gain some experience that could be good for us down the road. He's a terrible rebounder and I'd rather see us play Ejim and Godfrey at the same time more often.

Yeah.. the late game meltdowns are getting old. And you mention that creighton game, looking back on it, that has the same characteristics of recent games. Dig a hole in the first half, catch up, get a lead in the second half, then **** it away. We had a 5 pt lead with a minute left and were there replay available to show the refs that JVB didnt get the shot off in time (which, evidence after the fact points to), we wouldve gone to OT. I think a lot more would remember this game had that happened.
I refrained from posting last night because I didn't want to overreact. Now that I've slept on it, I find myself still disappointed. Our guys are battling, and I appreciate that, but I sure hope they figure out how to close out a game soon. Someone, be it DG, Jake, Scotty or whoever needs to assert themselves at the end of the game and make a play to seal the deal.
It's been a combination of bad luck and poor execution down the stretch that's hurt them in conference play, but if they can just squeeze two or three wins from the rest of their schedule I'd still feel very good about the direction of the program.
What's goofy about this year is that I'm kind of perversely proud of how disappointing last night's loss was. Part of changing the losing culture of a program (and that's what it was under McD) is making the fans and players believe that the team should win certain games going in. I think CFH is there on that front. Now he just has to actually get the W.
