Tell me how you know, "neither is going to want to be 2nd fiddle to anyone else on the team". You have inside information?

Michigan St fans are saying that was at least part of the problem with CA at MSU. He was unhappy playing a secondary role behind Lucas and even Lucious. I think it was pretty apparent that when Lucas got hurt, Allen's game got better. His minutes didn't change dramatically but his productivity definitely increased!

Anyone who knows anything about RW back through high school, knows that he wants to be the man.

Their are egos on the team. I'm not saying it won't work, but it could be a challenge for FH to keep everyone happy. It's nice to bring it good transfers but they are all transferrring for a reason; something made them unhappy. FH needs to keep them happy.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. It will be a challenge for Fred in today's bb culture.

Someone (I believe in this thread) asked for a roster breakdown. Here's one I have. Yellow indicates a player who's ineligble. I realize Royce White's decision hasn't yet been made, but for now I'll leave him as ineligible.

Roster Breakdown
Aren't you missing Palo? Interesting that we are all excited about a team in 2011 that will have only one player that played last year for the Cyclones. I'm excited as well, but that is a lot of new players for one season.

I guess you're stumping me with this point. Isn't this true of every sport with scholarship athletes? Managing personalities is what the big money is payed for.

Junior:
-Babb
-Booker

Soph:
-Ejim
-Godfrey
-White
-McKnight
-Palo (RS)
-Railey

Fresh:

-Odunsi

interesting choice on the last scholarship in 2011. I think Coleman is still the top priority even though PG is the obvious need. To me Coleman looks like a future All Big XII player and having a guy like that makes Iowa State a very attractive school to a Big time PG recruit in 2012. Allen and Coleman seem to have similar games and would be a good mentor for JC his first year here.

It's not that difficult of a concept to understand. You are correct; the coaches job is to manage personalities, but when you are dealing with several transfer players that are all arriving because they were unhappy in their previous setting, that job becomes much more difficult in my opinion. CA didn't get along with his coach. Babb didn't get along with his coach. RW burned every bridge and opportunity he had at Minnesota. Those are 3 strong personalities to mesh.

The big money is paid for managing personalities but the great coaches are the one's who can recruit "team first" guys and lead them to wins.

I hope FH can do it. I watched him play once in high school and several times after. I think he is a good player and a better person.

Looking at this roster breakdown, this year could be brutal. O well, am in school 4-5 years and will not see a good basketball team.

Pumped for 2011 though. Hope everything works out.

So we've gone from everyone transferring out of here... to everyone transferring in to ISU... and now we're getting grief from Iowa fans that now we'll have a problem with trying to make all these great players happy? That's a lot better problem to have than what Fran has over in IC... I'll tell you that!

Every single player that is good enough to play Div I basketball has somewhat of an attitude. They all think they are the greatest thing since Michael Jordan.

My question... why didn't Fran even go after Royce White, Chris Babb, or Chris Allen? And don't tell me that he only wants crystal clean players, because if he does, he won't be around long.

And another thing... why wouldn't Staten or Paige want to play on this team? Unless they get offers from the UNC's and Duke's of the world? Why go to Iowa at this point? I think Hoiberg will EASILY be able to sell a really good PG on coming to play on this team. That is not a hard sell.

Michigan State student here..

Congrats on getting Chris Allen. He's a great player, and I wish him all the best.

It appears that Michigan State's offense didn't really fit Allen's style of play. He fits more of the uptempo offense that Freddie is going to have.

Not trying to brush off your comment, but MSU plays a very "uptempo" style. I'm pretty positive MSU's offense tempo will be just as fast, if not, faster than ISU's. So-called "expert" analysts on ESPN think because we're in Big Ten, we always play slow-paced, half-court offense -- not true at all.

Allen's style of play fit just fine to MSU's offense. 8 ppg might not seem much, but it was highly unlikely for one player to average 20+ a game because we had so many quality players. Nonetheless, he's a great player and I'm sure he'll be a big addition to your team.

I think this year will be interesting, effort will set the tone and we will win games that we shouldn't. Plus a lot of young guys will get experience.

I've just been a little detached from the basketball talk, so a lot of this almost new to me. I remember seeing that Babb and White were transferring in, but I guess it never really registered until reading this thread the implications. Could ISU make that much of a meteoric rise to the top echelon of the Big 12 like Kansas State and Baylor has done? Time will tell. I was thinking about getting season tickets for basketball this year, but depending on how things go this coming season, I will definitely be first in line to grab season tickets for 2011!

Heck, maybe ISU wins the national championship in 2012. And then the world ends.
