I don't hate him, but certainly not on my favorite players list... I think he's been hanging around Kobe too much!

The argument that Jordan had such a great supporting cast is one of the most overrated things ever. Nobody would even know the names of those guys if Jordan did not make them look good. Scottie Pippen is certainly NOT a hall of famer without MJ.

How did the Bulls do post Jordan? How did they do when he retired briefly to try baseball before he came back to them?

Pip is definitely still a hall of famer without MJ.

It's a speculative...but, personally, I don't think so. Not DEFINITELY. I watched Pippen for years with Jordan. There is a reason that most people don't have a Pippen highlight in their head. Pippen was a solid player, yes, but he was a career 6REB, 5AST and 16.1PPG player. And when he didn't have Jordan he never really showed an ability to significantly raise his stats from his previous years with Jordan or to carry a team to a championship.

Frankly, I think Pippen isn't a HOFer were he anywhere else.

I must have misread the thread title... for some reason I thought this was about Gasol. :elvis:

I'd give Pau some slack. He did serve a lengthy sentence with Grizzlies.

This. Pau came a long way to play for the freaking Grizzlies for a lot of years. He deserves a little love.

Kobe has:

Pau - many time allstar, people forget what a stud he was in Vancouver/Memphis

Odom - has been a 16 ppg scorer for his entire career was the man in Clipperville was a rising star as a young player under he had trouble putting down the hash.

Bynum - widely regarded as one of the best young centers in the league.

I'm not saying they're the greatest cast ever assembled, but Gasol / Odom / Bynum > Pippen / ? / ? from the Jordan years. Kobe has a lot of help.

Ummmm.... have you watched Dwight Howard? dude complains twice as much. better luck next year magic!! this series is OVER
Dwight has reason to complain as much as he does, he has an open dunk at the end of regulation, theres no logical proof that kobe is going for the ball, and just hacks the crap out of him, but there never seems to be calls on kobe at those times in the game. Another point is, kobe elbows jameer nelson, which is a charge, but the ref inadvertantly lets it go, though quite an obvious call, and pau hits a 3.

You really can't name anyone other than Pippen? Are you just not trying so it will prove your point or what?

Pau Gasol is easily the most skilled big man in the NBA. Maybe not the best, but the most skilled. Gotta love him showing some toughness and a little attitude at the end. You have to dunk that ball and show no mercy. Its the finals, then dont back down from Pietrus. Send a message. This series is over.

This series was over on June 3rd. The Magic never stood a chance against the marketing machine known as the David Stern League (formerly known as the NBA).

Sucks that Kobe beef steak can throw all the elbows he wants, cry, pi$$ and moan to the refs and they will not call a foul on him. The zebras totally swallowed their whistles this series. Have they handed out any Technicals during the finals? I haven't watched every minute of every game, but I haven't seen any called.

I love this game, just not this league.

Well for the most part I think that's fair to say...outside of Pippen, who imo is often over-hyped to begin with, there really weren't any high quality players. What Phil did was put the perfect role players around Jordan.

That said, should Kobe win this year, I think it's fair to say this performance is on par with Joran-esque years in terms of surrounding talent.

Toni Kukoc, BJ Armstrong, Ron Harper, Dennis Rodman, John Paxson, Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, Steve Kerr...
All these names will be just as relevant as Kobe's supporting cast when looked back upon.

This is just silly...

The Magic got 37 FT attempts last night. The Lakers got 20. The Magic lost because they can't make FTs (only made 22), not because the refs totally swallowed their whistles, or because of some evil plan devised by David Stern...

Yeah, the more legitimate distinction that will be made between Kobe and MJ is the Shaq era.

Pippen was the only mainstay for the 6 championships. Fill in the names with the next 2 quality starters. Grant and Rodman would be your second players ... then who knows? BJ & Harper?

Point being that both Jordan and Kobe have very high caliber players on their rosters to pick from. Of course, most of Kobe's came to town that way - Jordan brought 'em up.

It will make my posts a lot longer if I have to flush everything out for you Gernimo. Maybe for an Engineering school "Pippen / X / Y" would have been more appropriate.

Paxson, Cartwright? You're really going there?
