Twister Sister Summary - big plays, defense end Baylor streak

I’ll make this quick and then go celebrate. How about...

ISU comes out and punches Baylor in the nose and leads after the 1st.

Baylor responds and ISU doesn’t score a SINGLE basket in the 2nd

The rest of the game is a back and forth battle. Reminded me of a heavyweight match.

The officials weren’t the best, but they weren’t afraid to make a call at the end of the game either. Missed a LOT of over the back or displacement calls on Baylor.

Baylor dominated the inside and ISU dominated the outside

in the end it was ISU with the ball, no shot clock and a tie game. Joens is fouled and hits one with .1 tics left. Misses second on purpose and Baylor’s streak in the conference is over.

highlight? Treys made by nearly everyone on the team. Biggest may have been one by Nez as the shot clock was expiring.

Great job ladies! ISU 57-56.

Seton Hall Pirate does a great update on this!

Made it to Ames Again

I've driven up to see the game tomorrow. Hope to meet a few of you again. I've met some very good people up here over the years. Just wish NWICY was going to be there. We've become great buddies. But he's stuck up in MN. Apparently he still has to work for a living.

I also plan to go up to Spirit Lake Monday and take a tour of the Indian Motorcycle Factory. Then I plan to go down to Oskaloosa and spend a day with a farmer I used to harvest corn for. He's 20 years older than me but seems to be in better health. Must be all that hog sausage he ate,

Plan to work my way on down to KC then and take in the Tournament. I'm sure I'll see a few of you there as well. I know Acoustamac and Mike are planning to be there. So good luck to the Clones in KC.

TE Recruiting

I love the way CMC and Manning use the 3 TE's in our Power Spread Offense but we may be losing all 3 of the main guys at that position. The staff is hitting the recruiting trail hard to add some depth to Skylar Loving-Black, Easton Dean and potentially D'Shayne James. As for HS Recruiting Iowa State is sitting very good with 4 Star Ohio Native Jack Pugh. Instate Player Max Llewellyn has 3 CB picks for ISU. AJ Rollins is the #4 Player in the State of Nebraska, the Omaha Native is also Cousins with Breece Hall. ISU is also in the running for JUCO TE Quentin Moore with Oklahoma State looking like the early favorite for the Independence CC TE.

Greatest Cyclone Quarterback

I posted the basis for this in the Wright thread, but decided to offer it up for discussion in it’s own thread. I’ve been thinking this for a while, and this seems as good a time as any.

It’s been said that Brock Purdy is about to go down as the greatest quarterback in the history of Cyclone football.

Well, I don’t have much quibble about that. Matter of fact, I think that by many perameters, by various metrics, it’s already true. And I’ve seen the best quarterbacks of the modern era, from David Archer through Seneca, Todd, Sage, Bret, Austen, Sam and...Steele.

On the other hand, I think that the way things are going under Matt Campbell, it might be more accurate to say that Brock is the best quarterback in the history of Cyclone football thus far.

Call him a trail blazer.

And this a new era of Cyclone football.

Now, the guys who come afterwards are going to have better corps of receivers. Better stables of running backs. And better offensive lines—definitely better offensive lines! And all of those assets to benefit from for their whole careers—not just their senior seasons, as Brock is likely to enjoy.

Not to mention having even better defenses, to get the ball back more often.

So, the truth of the matter is, those guys will likely have more notoriety as recruits. There’ll be people who break Brock’s records. Shoot, there’ll likely be kids who may be even better quarterbacks than Brock is—imagine Brock Purdy’s brain in Steele Jantz’s body.

(That would be a young John Elway, in case you’re wondering)

But just as Seneca will always be Seneca, Brock will always be Brock. Genuine and authentic.

Enjoy it at your nearest Jack Trice Stadium while you can.

Go Cyclones!

Short layover in DTW vs ATL with 1 year old

All, we are flying with a one year old and have two flights we are considering, both with very short layovers. Either we can fly through Atlanta and have a 57 minute layover or fly through Detroit and have a 35 minute layover. I have never flown through Detroit but I know it's a much smaller airport compared to Atlanta. I've learned in the past that even 1 hour layovers in Atlanta give you little time to spare if you have to hop terminals via the Plane Train. Keep in mind we want to gate check a stroller but we aren't opposed to bag checking it since time is of the essence on a short connection. What would you suggest? Thanks!

Anyone else watching DEVs?

Just released the first two episodes on Hulu. Its produced by FX, but appears to be a Hulu exclusive with new episodes airing every Thursday.

I loved the first two episodes. It kind of had an HBO's Watchmen feel to me. It drops you into the middle of a complicated story and doesn't offer much explanation so far, but you can definitely feel big things building. It's a very different role for Nick Offerman, but he's great so far.

Recruits at PIAA Individual Tourney

ISU commits Paniro Johnson and Cam Robinson have both advanced to the PIAA class AAA Semifinals.

Paniro won 7-4 his first match and pinned his next guy in 0:51 in the quarters.

Cam won 18-4 his first match and 4-2 in the quarters.

I'm not too familiar with their opponents, but I know Cam's quarters match was with Nathan Stefanik, a two-time place winner and Princeton commit. He's brother to current Princeton wrestler, Travis Stefanik. It seems like a pretty decent win to move onto the Semis.

Sounds like Paniro's Semifinal match will be a tough one against two-time place winner and Cornell commit, Cole Handlovic.

Another family dynasty?

I think we are all aware of the Joens family with Ashley and next year Aubry being Cyclones. And how about their younger sister (Kelsy?).

But I was reading about Lexi Donarski and see she has a sister Macy, a freshman, who recently had a double double with a game with ten points and eleven (yes, ELEVEN!) steals! Who ever heard of eleven steels in a game?

I do not know if Macy has Lexi's potential but it is intriguing!
