RV Village - Assignments

Looking forward to the new RV Village. Mainly because of no more noisy generators and no diesel fumes (from my RV). Also, not as much 'tailgate creep' with the assigned spots and a more defined area. I did chuckle at some of the restrictions (no glass bottles, no liquor. and no standalone speakers). I did upgrade my amplification this year, but if you knew what I had before it was laughable, but it worked.

I understood the 'no DJ Booth' or PA setups. Not everyone wants to listen to your music as much as you do... (especially when you are drunk singing the first 30 seconds of each song at midnight, that was annoying)

There will be some adjustments from D4 to here, but I like it.

I got spot 429 and I am next to a college roommate, so that will be fun. Will be there 9/2. My dogs are itching to get back in the rig.

Light and Magic on Disney+

Great show. A lot about ILM that I did not know, especially the people who worked there. I have watched a half dozen documentaries about Pixar, never saw a story before about how it was developed at ILM. All the Pixar docs started with Steven Jobs purchasing it from George Lucas. An amazing show and well worth seeing.

*** 2022-2023 College Football Survivor Week 1 ***

I know I'm 3 weeks early but pumped to get this contest up and going and since you have to be in at the start no one can say I didn't have time to get in on this. Again starting Week 1 with games associated as Week 0 on the 27th. I will get the Week 2 thread up the next day for the games for the 1st through the 6th.

New this year are tiebreaker points. If your team wins and covers you gain an extra bonus point. If you take a undefeated team who is the underdog you gain the point for them covering plus another bonus point. As the season goes on the number of teams undefeated being a underdog greatly diminish so take advantage while you can.

I will be using ESPN's Lines

Rules/How to Play if you are new:
  1. Pick a team you think will win that weeks game. Pick only 1 team per week.
  2. Don't pm me the pick, post on here your pick.
  3. You can only pick that team ONCE the entire time you are in the game.
  4. The goal is to advance and be the last person standing.
  5. Only games that have a FBS school facing another FBS school are eligible to be picked.
  6. You have up until the start time of the game you picked to switch.
  7. If your team loses, you are out for the competition.
  8. If you skip a week of picks, you are out.
  9. You can switch as many times up until the game you have picked officially starts.
  10. If you have questions, pm me
  11. Post 2 of the thread will have the possible games you can pick.
  12. Post 3 will have each player and their previous week's picks.
  13. You can only pick teams that are undefeated (they will be bolded).
  14. You can't join in during the middle of the season.
Please include prior weeks picks with your pick for the week.
Have any questions, pm me or ask in the thread. Thanks!

Can't believe it's been almost 10 years since Barbara Mack died

I was thinking about Professor Mack today and how much I loved her JLMC law class. I have two stories to share:

Since I can't hear, I had a very prim interpreter in that class. Very genteel. Refined. Barbara was so caring and understanding, but she was still Barbara. Early in the semester during class she asked the interpreter to teach her all the colorful curse words in sign language and turned to the class and made sure we all understood how to sign them. She kept using them all semester.

My interpreter, well, I've never seen another human being turn so red in my life. Still haven't.

Also, Barbara kept warning us class after class that we would fail her class (no idle threat) if we didn't spend many months researching and writing our massive law paper final. A challenge! Decided not to do anything until a few days before it was due. (Yes, I was dumb.) After getting a very good grade, I told her what I had done. Rather than being insulted like some teachers would've been, she thought it was the funniest thing ever. Laughed and laughed. I still have that paper.

RIP

I was literally just thinking how this competition mirrored 2019.

Great stuff from CW this morning.

Compensation of college basketball officials

As a high school official of more than 25 seasons I see both sides of this. In essence, you are working/calling the same game (especially at high school level) BUT, the men's (boy's in HS) game IS faster, with more action. The players are quicker, jump higher, etc. which means you have more to watch for. It is just a more difficult game to work. And that is a generalization, I have work girl's teams that are just as quick, physical, etc. as boy's teams, but IN GENERAL, the girl's game is a half step slower than the boy's game.

With that said, I think they should be paid the same (as we are in high school) as the skill of the official needs to be at the same level or the game will suffer. If the pay is the same, maybe some of the better college officials will work more WBB games, although I think they have some good size egos and thus probably will stay with MBB for the exposure/fame those convey.

Baylor game start time

Any educated guesses on what time the Baylor game will start?

Flying the youngest back for an official college visit and would love him to be able to experience a game day.

He's been to a game when he was 10 or 11 but not the same experience as an 18 year old considering ISU for college.
