Friday OT #2 - Get A Job

@Bipolarcy was great again today with the suggestions:

Do you have any stories about being fired from a job or someone you know being fired from a job shortly after they started? Or maybe a job you took or someone you know took and realized on the first day that it was a mistake, either because it was difficult work or the boss sucked or the conditions were terrible, and just walked off the job without telling anyone.

Friday OT #1 - What Condition My Condition Was In

I was having a chat with @cyclones500 and thought of this idea; thanks for bringing it up, 500!

What sort of playlists have you made? Is there an organization within the individual playlists themselves? How are they organized in your library?

*********************************************************
I am Type A in my playlists, like everything else. The playlists themselves are not just "20 songs by this person, 20 by this person, etc. and hope I mix them up when shuffling." I generally don't shuffle, so I put them in an order where songs by the same artist are spaced out, and I like to sort of have a good mix/transition.

I was going nuts with my organization of the playlists themselves a few weeks ago, so I made a bunch of private-only empty playlists named "*****" and used them to delineate between areas. So my resulting playlists are sort of sorted into these categories:

[Four or five most commonly listened to]
*****
[A few related to a specific time and place/genre - so, like Early Punk, Doo Wop, etc.]
*****
[Random ones I created with a theme, but listen less often than the top few]
*****
[Holiday playlists - Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July]
*****
[Really random ones I created that are not often listened to]
*****
[Lists Spotify Created for me - Daily Mixes, R&B Mix, 2020s Indie Mix, etc.]

Big 12 coach quote

This “anonymous” quote sounds like it came from a coach we know and love.

Early single game tickets help

I’m on day two, and my third device, trying to order additional single game tickets. For the fees they charge how can ticket masters user experience be this bad. I am rather intelligent and am tech savvy. I am in, but I can’t get it to show me more than sections available, no seat detail. I have done this before, but am at a loss…and so effing pissed off right now. Just a lousy partner of ISU.

Away Game Tickets

I purchased tickets to the Cyhawk game through Iowa State's ticket allotment. I noticed today my season tickets had been loaded to my account but this did not include the tickets for the Cyhawk game. Does anyone know from past years about when these tickets will be loaded so we can find out seating assignments? I guess it doesn't make much of a difference whether I know or not, just interested to find out where my seats will be.

  • Poll Poll
How much will you watch CFB and how?

How much will you watch CFB and how many streaming services?

  • Casual consumer but only 1 or 2 services

    Votes: 65 34.9%
  • Casual consumer across 3+ services

    Votes: 23 12.4%
  • Heavy consumer but only 1 or 2 services

    Votes: 60 32.3%
  • Heavy consumer across 3+ services

    Votes: 38 20.4%

Tough poll to formulate but simple premise;

If the market continues down the direction of leagues being spread across many different service, how much CFB will you watch and are you somebody that is going to seek out games across multiple streaming services (Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Paramount, Peacock, etc)? Or, are you likely to watch only what is on your primary cable-like streaming service (i.e. Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling, etc)?

Casual = ISU and 1 or 2 games/week
Heavy = ISU and 3+ games/week

A common concern is that while streaming may be the obvious future (and current reality for many of us), the fragmentation of where games are shown may decrease visibility for a program like ISU or a league like the Big 12 that won’t be as prevalent on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, or ESPN. This poll will be pretty skewed given the site audience, but interesting.

ESPN Out for B1G TV Rights

This is all over You Tube. ESPN has withdrawn its bidding for B1G TV deal. FOX, CBS, NBC to carry its FB games, IIRC, starting 2024. This has to be a positive for the BIG12. It also, IMO, boosted the value of PAC12 TV rights. ESPN has more money to spend, and it wants "PAC12-After-Dark" time slot. What this means for the BIG12 remains to be seen. I believe the BIG12 will also get a boost to TV revenue. What that'll look like is anyone's guess. Overall I think it's a positive for the BIG12.

2022 Field of Dreams

Caught the last few innings of the Minor League game on MLB Network tonight. High A ball, Davenport vs Cedar Rapids. Everything about watching these games bring a sense of pride and renewed love for the game. The players, umps, commentators and fans are in awe of the atmosphere and nostalgia. Beautiful evening, beautiful ballpark and a great thing for the state of Iowa!

On That Note: Think

Welcome to another edition of “On That Note,” CF’s weekly music series, co-hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

I've had a little extra time to think about my topic for this week, and this one was right there all along as the thought came to me about having the topic being the words think and thought.

It includes all variations of those words and topic includes title and lyric examples.

We Will Collective - Employer Matching Donations

I was hired by a large employer here in Des Moines a few months ago and I was looking through some of their benefits outside the typical medical/401k match/etc and I stumbled up something that perked my interest.

They will match up to $10,000 in charitable donations to any nonprofit organization of your choosing. They will also turn any recorded volunteer hours into cash donations. They organization just has to be located in Iowa and be tax exempt under 501(c)(3).

As far as I know, the We Will Collective should fit that bill. I wonder how many other large employers in Iowa have something similar to this? Might as well leverage everything we can.

Iowa State squarely on the bubble in latest bracketology

Some interesting projections for March Madness this year. Biggest one that sticks out to me is TCU at a No. 4 seed.
