Kunc going off will help drag someone around the perimeter and away from the basket, with our cutting offense that will help a lot to get to the hoop.
Great point, More defensive scheme’s will have to account for that possibility, opens up a lot more offensively if he’s consistent with his shot.

This game should be a great measuring stick for where the team is really at. The competition so far hasn't given us too much clarity.

Really excited to see how this group competes against Xavier.

What's bar we would have to clear to make the NIT?

TCU and Texas made the NIT in 2019.

Texas was 21-16 (8-10) and TCU was 23-14 (7-11).

Both were pretty high seeds, though, close to the NCAA tournament bubble.

Baylor and Oklahoma State did the season before.

Baylor went 19-15 (8-10) and OSU went 21-15 (8-10).

Looks like you need to have a win total in at least the high teens and at least seven Big 12 wins. Finish 9-9 in the Big 12 and that's probably going to be enough no matter the circumstances.

There are possible but still a reach compared to current projections.

Way up there

You more or less have to be a bubble team now, the mid majors get auto bids if they win their league regular season but don't get an NCAA bid. That leaves less spots for p6 teams.

I'd say it'll take 7 or 8 big 12 wins to get in the convo.

This team has been fun and with the focus on gritty defense we should have a punchers chance in most games. We'll get blown out sometimes but we'll catch a team on a bad night as well.

With such a new team its really hard to gauge where they'll end up. Sometimes players rise to the occasion and perform better than expected. It kind of reminds me of going into the Kane/Ejim year where the expectation was we were going to take a step back. But then Ejim played at another level, Kane was great, and Monte as a freshman was better than expected. Once we beat Michigan the thoughts on the team changed drastically.

Xavier will by far be the best team we've seen so far and this tournament will be a good stepping stone for getting ready for Big 12 play....I don't see us winning, but if we have a decent shooting night and we lock down defensively, I think we keep it competitive

ESPN's BPI gives us a 34.9% chance, which seems slightly high to me. I'd predict Xavier by ~10.

There's a chance..., my heart says we might shock the world - well, not quite sine its not Duke or Gonzaga etc but you get the point....

my head says we lose bo 10-15 but fight like heck which is good enough this year. and in general is good

but there is always a chance.

I am more interested to see 2 things:
1) can they guard the perimeter and harass opposing guards against much higher quality opponent? ie is hte defense actually good?
2) can they keep getting open 3s in the offense? or was that just because of bad opponents?

If they look good on defense, and can get open shots... win or lose, that would also bode very well for the season.

My main hope is that we are in every game at Hilton until the final 5 minutes. I know we probably won't win them all, but at least be in range (10 or so) at the 5 minute left mark so the crowd not only stays but remains engaged. Last couple of years were bad when you are down 20+ AT HOME.
