Williams & Blum Pod: Where does Iowa State land in the new Big 12 hierarchy?

ISU is fortunate I am not wealthy. If I were, I could not, in good conscience, spend millions on college athletics when the 8 billion members of our human family need so much help.
Although, were I a billionaire, I could justify $100 million for ISU, $20 million for the USS Iowa museum, and most of the rest for good deeds for people.
Only in last few days I stumbled over a saying that makes essential sense for me: I'll give my kids enough that they can do something, but not enough that they can do nothing.

I don’t know what objective criteria you could use to put BYU or WVU behind Iowa State as a program. Bowl wins, head to head, national championships, bowl appearances, NFL draft picks, etc. please explain with data.
I think CW and Blum were saying slightly different things.
I took it as CW is saying the Big 12 in hoops is gonna be like the SEC in football. And with heavy hitters all around, it’s impossible for an upper middle class type program (think Arkansas or even Texas A&M) to have consistent success. The deck is just so stacked against you. Kansas is an elite program, Baylor and Houston have tasted that success, and now maybe even UConn, Arizona, and Gonzaga will be joining.
But in football, there is no stacked deck - there’s a relatively even playing field. And this will be the first time in perhaps Iowa State history to play football in a league where there aren’t top dogs that are going to out-resource you in a huge way no matter what.
I think Blum misinterpreted this and said it’s like football has a lower floor than hoops. But it actually means that football has a higher ceiling. If CMC sticks around and keeps building, ISU can win this conference and make a 12-team CFP. And if the chips fall the right way, they can even become a consistent Big 12 contender with CMC. But I don’t think hoops is going to be able to pull off consistently competing for the conference title quite so easily.

Same here for BYU, except the margin is even bigger. The only category ISU wins is head to head, which is measured in four games all between 1968 and 1974

Know your audience. This is an Iowa State message board. But if I were to advocate for that ranking I would say that WVU is a geographic outlier that has struggled to adjust to a texas-centric conference and that poster was extrapolating similar results for BYU once they join as another geographic outlier.Same here for BYU, except the margin is even bigger. Oh. I thought we were having an honest discussion. Anyway as a geographic outlier that has struggled to adjust to B12 life, WVU is 73-63 since joining the conference and ISU is 60-77 over the same time period.
Guy who has never had a good thing to say about iowa state is just on cyclone fanatic for an "honest discussion"

I don't get the point, if you don't make the playoff it doesn't matter? It most certainly matters if we an 3 games or 7. 3 wins for several years and everyone gets canned. 7 wins and we all feel like we are in the brink of the playoffs.
