Here’s a ‘WAY out on a limb’ prediction from me…. the next school CMC will be coaching at after ISU will be a lesser program than ISU…. it will be considered a step down in level.
So Mt Union? Or you think Iowa State is going to fire CMC?

I can personally attest to the wealth of some of the TCU alumn. One my close family friends has TCU in her will, when she passes they are getting millions from her estate.

ISU is fortunate I am not wealthy. If I were, I could not, in good conscience, spend millions on college athletics when the 8 billion members of our human family need so much help.

Although, were I a billionaire, I could justify $100 million for ISU, $20 million for the USS Iowa museum, and most of the rest for good deeds for people.

Only in last few days I stumbled over a saying that makes essential sense for me: I'll give my kids enough that they can do something, but not enough that they can do nothing.

Rambling, I know. sigh

I feel like in terms of football program rankings I'd say:

1. TCU
2. OSU
3. Baylor
4. KSU
5. ISU
6. BYU
7. Tech
8. UCF
9. Cincy
10. Houston
11. WVU
12. KU
I don’t know what objective criteria you could use to put BYU or WVU behind Iowa State as a program. Bowl wins, head to head, national championships, bowl appearances, NFL draft picks, etc. please explain with data.

I think CW and Blum were saying slightly different things.

I took it as CW is saying the Big 12 in hoops is gonna be like the SEC in football. And with heavy hitters all around, it’s impossible for an upper middle class type program (think Arkansas or even Texas A&M) to have consistent success. The deck is just so stacked against you. Kansas is an elite program, Baylor and Houston have tasted that success, and now maybe even UConn, Arizona, and Gonzaga will be joining.

But in football, there is no stacked deck - there’s a relatively even playing field. And this will be the first time in perhaps Iowa State history to play football in a league where there aren’t top dogs that are going to out-resource you in a huge way no matter what.

I think Blum misinterpreted this and said it’s like football has a lower floor than hoops. But it actually means that football has a higher ceiling. If CMC sticks around and keeps building, ISU can win this conference and make a 12-team CFP. And if the chips fall the right way, they can even become a consistent Big 12 contender with CMC. But I don’t think hoops is going to be able to pull off consistently competing for the conference title quite so easily.

There is not a single metric in which ISU is a better program than WVU. The Mountaineers are a better program by a landslide.

Same here for BYU, except the margin is even bigger. The only category ISU wins is head to head, which is measured in four games all between 1968 and 1974

Know your audience. This is an Iowa State message board. But if I were to advocate for that ranking I would say that WVU is a geographic outlier that has struggled to adjust to a texas-centric conference and that poster was extrapolating similar results for BYU once they join as another geographic outlier.

His post history is something. Over a decade of nothing but talking down Iowa State, on an ISU message board

Oh. I thought we were having an honest discussion. Anyway as a geographic outlier that has struggled to adjust to B12 life, WVU is 73-63 since joining the conference and ISU is 60-77 over the same time period.

As far as the "other" sports are concerned, the departure of OU and UT will open the door for new blood at the top of several sports. There's no reason ISU shouldn't be top-4 overall (all sports).

Historically BYU and WVU have more success, but that’s pretty easy. Trajectory wise, I’d put BYU above ISU given our last 2 years, but fairly close when expanding to a 5 year view.

Maaaaan, I really do not think I agree on the basketball/football thing.

Main deal for me is the postseason stuff. Sure, we might not be winning the Big 12 title in that conference but we can go on a run in the tournament or go win it in KC again and leave on solid vibes.

With football we can have 7-5 yet again and go to a pointless bowl game. Does anyone leave that season feeling all that great though? Right now bowls are already pretty pointless, once the playoff goes to 12 its going to make them even more pointless, and then the expansion to 16 makes them feel like the CBI.

When we're at a 16 team playoff does anyone really care if you're playing in a random bowl where half the players on each side don't even show up?
I don't get the point, if you don't make the playoff it doesn't matter? It most certainly matters if we an 3 games or 7. 3 wins for several years and everyone gets canned. 7 wins and we all feel like we are in the brink of the playoffs.

TCU sold 6 30-year suites at $15 million EACH as part of fundraising for their stadium renovations a decade ago. Also another 19 10-year suites at $1-5 million each.

$164M stadium renovation. Zero debt.
TCU revenue was $40 million more last time than ours.
