Chinese Homestyle Cooking is tough to beat. Love that place. On that note - does anyone know what's going on with CHC? I went there a couple weeks ago and there was a sign hanging on the door saying they were closed until sometime in late July!

The CHC owners have taken extended vacations in past summers. They were closed for 4-6 weeks a couple years ago and they told me they were in China for a vacation.

Just my opinion:

Pepperoni and pineapple on thick white from Great Plains
Irish Nachos from Dublin Bay
Hawkeye wings from Wallaby's
Anything from The Cafe
Garbage deli from Hickory Park

If you really want to pig out, I'd say Buffet Mongolian may be your best bet.

I am a big fan of Wallaby's and Battle's BBQ and eat at both places when I can.
IMO the best kept secret for breakfast food in Ames is Angie's Cantina on Lincoln Way (couple businesses west of Jeff's Pizza)

Wallaby's - Buffalo chicken wrap. Fries. Mix together ranch and ketchup for dip.
House of Chen - Chef's special chicken. Trust me.
Indian Delights - Butter chicken.
Dublin Bay - Buffalo chicken salad.

Odd Fellows is a great sandwiche place, but agree with earlier comment little pricey, you won't go home hungry

The Metro
Chinese Homestyle Cooking or Pizza Pit for their inferno wings. Two places I haven't found comparable replacements for in the metro.

The Cafe in north Ames. Hands down. For somewhere to splurge a little bit (although the prices are pretty reasonable) and really have good food, that's the place.
