Good stuff. It's already getting easy to forget the guys from those early Hoiberg teams even though it was only several years ago. So many great players to come through Ames just in that time span. My favorite Cyclones team of the last decade or so was that 2010-11 team; Hoiberg's first year. That team had no business going 16-16, but those guys totally bought into what Fred was selling and that laid the groundwork for everything that's followed. Scotty was a big part of that. Glad to see he's doing well post-basketball career.

I like these a lot and think Rob does a great job with them, but they seem to be more of a "trip down memory lane" piece vs a "where are they now" piece. I like memories of when they were playing but think these could be even better with more information on what they are doing now. Maybe they aren't willing to share everything with us either.

I agree with you. I like these a lot as well and Rob Gray's reporting is great, but it would be neat to know even more details about what the players' lives have been like, particularly sports-related. For example, what kind of stats did Christopherson have while playing basketball in Australia? Who else of note did he play with? What did he think of his time there? That said, I'll respect their privacy and I respect Rob not pushing too hard for personal information, like family information.

Good article! Always loved Scotty. My wife still refers to him as 'wiggles' from when he did the little shimmy after a big dunk, maybe ejim?

Best 16-16 team in the country! Weren't we within a few points in the last 2 minutes of like 10 games? That team gave me hope for what was to come.

Yeah. There were several games that came down to the wire. They just didn't have the go to guy for those situations. DG was the closest thing to it, and he wasn't ready. It's a shame he only got one year of Hoiball. It's remarkable how much he improved in just that one season.

DG was completely different in that one year than what we had seen previously. Seemed like he played 40 minutes every game in conference.

All the starters played heavy minutes that year IIRC. They went seven deep on a good day - DG, Scotty, Jake Anderson, Ejim, Vanderbeken, Bubu and Godfrey.

And you could tell it in those close late games. Too tired to close them out.

Yep. I can't recall the exact circumstances, but I remember them getting blown out of the gym by Missouri that year towards the end of conference play. Ejim ran into the freshman wall late in the year to the point where Godfrey replaced him in the starting lineup, and you could tell the other guys were running on fumes.

Yeah. Just one more player would have been the depth that team needed to get over the top.
I still dream of that team with Brackins staying. It would have been phenomenal.

How many players from the McDermott era would have been juniors/seniors under Hoiberg if they had stuck around?
