I was hoping it was true so that I could use it to mock Hok friends. They hate the Fred Flintstone comparison. The more ammo, the better.
In this article it says the logo was donated to the university in '82. I suppose future royalties could have been part of the "donation" process.

I remember when the new Hawkeye logo first came out and someone on campus created an "Iowa Turkeyes" shirt using a modified version of the logo with added turkey gobbler.
I had that t-shirt for many years but it's since gotten lost. I wish I still had it.
