As I get older, I've gotten better about trying to detach myself emotionally from the outcome from ISU games... but I'm still a huge football fan and it just really blows to spend 8 months waiting impatiently for football to return only to be greeted by this stinker.

This is pretty much exactly where I'm at.

I had hit the acceptance stage by half time, but I think the depression came afterwards to an extent, as while I'm not sitting around bummed out by this loss, I'm not all that excited about college football at the moment. Saturday definitely zapped some of my enthusiasm for the game as a whole.

Back to accptance. I think before this game I was in denial about ISU football being ISU football. I thought there actually was a bright future ahead. I'm back to believing that no matter how good things look, a kick in the nuts is always right around the corner.

Bargaining. I will buy tickets to the Texas game if we can manage a win vs. Iowa.

Acceptance, as soon as time ran out. In the grand scheme of life, a football game is just not worth going through any of the other stages.

I don't think avoidance is a stage of grief. But that is where I am at. I have steadfastly refused to watch any local sports. I haven't read any of the Register articles about the game. I certainly haven't tuned into KXNO all week. I will likely avoid everything until at least Wednesday or Thursday of next week.

It's not so much that I am still upset about the loss. It was a ****** loss and a terrible performance and really awful. But sometimes that kind of stuff happens. To put it this way, I am still LIVID about the Kansas basketball loss. This football loss is not as big of a deal to me. It sucks for this year and I suppose if we go 0-12 or something like that it'll get worse, but I still think the football program is in a good place and we've got the right guy running it.

The stuff I am looking to avoid (which means I have to pick my battles carefully on here and CR) is the everything is lost, our only chance at success ever went down the drain, Rhoads isn't doing things right, in year 5 he should be winning 10 games, etc, etc.

I'm at the stage where I'm only now even looking at the Forum. If we had won, I'd have been on here the rest of the weekend. As it is, I've been trying to keep football off my mind.

What the hell is wrong with you people? We lost a football game, have a bad team, and are probably in for a very long season. I can't believe that some of you are so emotionally immature that you are unable to deal with that without treating this site like some sort of therapist. It's sad and frankly embarrassing.

I'm in between acceptance and scared..Scared isn't one of the choices, but I don't care that's how I feel. I'm scared for a multitude of reasons..First off the UNI game is long gone, but it won't be easy to move on from a loss that seemed to be a sure win. Sometimes that screws with your mind and our guys are going to need confidence and gain momentum early in our game vs. Iowa. I played on a losing team in high school and it's challenging at times to get over that hump mentally when you've lost a few..Beyond the hawks and more importantly speaking-the big 12 is a primetime league. There's tons of talent and we all know that performing like we did Saturday will make for a long and painful season.

Emotionally immature would be the nicest thing a girl has said about me in a long time.

Acceptance for me. I wasn't able to watch, but wasn't shocked to see the score/stats, and was wondering on earlier threads about if the program had really progressed that much.

Until I see (or read, in this instance) some REAL progress (like literally just needing to show up and beat a team like UNI handedly, regardless of experience) I can't believe the talent has been upgraded that much. Usually when a BCS team loses to an FCS team, it's because that FCS team has some overlooked QB and some crazy offense, and something weird happens to give them a chance. The UNI game sounds like just the opposite.

If they show up to play Iowa tough or beat them, but don't do much else, that might actually be worse. Even Chizik did that.

That's where I'm at.
Football wise, I'm very disappointed.
Overall, I barely know it happened. I remember it, but it's been dwarfed by reality.

That is because you have a cutesy wootsey little baby. I have an apartment and pigs back at home. WHERE IS MY BABY!?!? :jimlad:

Disbelief on Saturday. Wore black on Sunday and thought about the money I would save this year not going to a bowl game. On Monday, got extra busy and avoided thinking about it. Starting to reengage tonight.

Acceptance. I accepted this year is about getting ready for 2014 last spring. I was actually encouraged by what I saw in the young guys.

That's exactly how I feel. If expectations for the for the season were more appropriate, the meltdown wouldn't be anywhere near what it is. The anger would still be the same because nobody wants to lose to freaking UNI but the despair wouldn't be there.

I look at it as:
1) The offense, which is almost mostly underclassmen, looked decent until Farniok got hurt who is arguably our best offensive player and hardest position to replace next to quarterback.
2) The defense looked decent when Miller was replaced with Knott.
3) The secondary looked good with the exception of a young Sam Richardson who will be replaced by a solid and proven Jansen Watson anyway.
4) Much of what people saw as "physical domination" simply comes from young or inexperienced players not being comfortable with or having to think about what they are doing instead of playing football. The only remedy of which is experience and practice.

Lot's of people would just rather absolutely ignore these things, but then again some people would just rather be unhappy.

Don't get me wrong, losing to a FCS team is bad, but it happens ever year and to teams much better established than us.
