It's a classic Prisoner's Dilemma. As soon as one of the 8 remaining teams bolts to another conference, it's over for the rest of the schools. Sticking together is the best for now, getting as much money as possible. Because once OU and Texas leaves for good (in 2025 or whenever) then the money really won't be there for the rest of the schools. It's gonna get really ugly.

Its not really a prisoners dilemma because every school understands that we will all go if we have the chance. If one school goes, it’s not going to destroy the league - because everyone else would already have gone if they had the chance, so no one else must have a chance if they’re still here.

If WVU got an ACC offer, and nothing else changed, we’d just invite 3 or 5 of the top G5s and try to make it work because the rest of us wouldn’t have a better option.

I honestly think the situation is playing out that OU and UT really are okay sticking it out through the remainder of the GoR if they have to. They lose out on some of the extra SEC money, but they aren't hurting for it. ESPN may have other plans, but they will have to pay up if they are going to be impatient.

But as it stands, OU and UT are joining the SEC in 2025. That gives the remaining 8 schools time to negotiate their next arrangements. Whether that be disbanding and joining other leagues, expansion, or merging with the PAC, all the landing spots can be set to begin in 2025. That way all the current Big 12 members gets what they are owed, and everyone honors the GoR and the media contacts to the completion.

Hell, we could know where everyone is going by the end of 2022, and still finish out the GoR to avoid a bunch of the legal BS.

Lots of whispers...getting louder each day...that the B1G is going hard after USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington....and that those schools are going to make the jump. If that happens, our position starts to clarify rapidly. In such an event, the only logical step is for the remnants of the Pac and Big 12 to merge...and perhaps add a team or two to get to 16.

Something like this:

What kind of TV money does that conference generate? Maybe $25M per year? I think it would be somewhere between AAC and ACC money. Not sure KU and ISU will be happy with that. Maybe we try to get in ACC with WVU.

I read somewhere today that AAC teams get $7 mil per team. Terrible.

Definitely would be better to get into ACC or B1G. What I'm laying out here is what happens if we don't...we don't need to step down to an AAC level, we can do better by holding our ground in the Big 12 and merging with the Pac remnants if that becomes an option.

No one has mentioned the obvious answer - we burn down UT and OU and piss on their ashes. That's the American way!
Funny you mention that. During the Civil War, the University of Alabama Campus was burned to the ground (with the exception of the President's Mansion - which still stands). The leader of the Union Forces who did that was from Kentucky. Alabama leads the all-time football series with Kentucky 38-2-1!

That would be adequate if it happened but don’t see it happening.
