I’ll have to watch that. I love Gilmour, but it seems like he’s a pretty controversial pick always when it comes to best guitarists ever. He seems to be considered “overrated” by many.

I think his “style” of playing is what really sets him apart. But I am definitely no expert…. I can barely even play a guitar.
I don't play. I just think when Gilmour plays he gives the guitar a soul in a way I don't think any others can. It's not necessarily about the complexity of what he's playing. Lots of others can play the same notes. And there are others who can probably play with more complexity. That's why I love his quote in that video... "It's not about playing fast or being flashy, it's about making every note count."

Gilmour just brings an emotion to his sound that's unreal.

EXACTLY! Music is an art form, and everyone will have their own personal tastes, but for me anyway, I don’t particularly enjoy someone just playing a guitar as fast as they possibly can…. yeah it’s impressive as hell…. but it doesn’t bring any emotional feelings out of me at all. Some guitarists can just make a guitar “cry” or like you said “give it a soul”.

I think it was BB King who said that the spaces between the notes are even more important than the notes themselves…. or something like that? So true…. for me anyway.

I play so i can vouch for Gilmour.

He's a master of hitting chord tones. What I mean by that us hitting roots, 3rds, and fifths of the underlying chords of the progression. He loves to slide and bend into them which makes his playing so melodic and original.

Among some longtime groups' catalogs I've been exploring & doing catch-up:

Los Lobos ... album released in 2015. It's likely to be part of my selections when we do the OTN LPs by decade series this summer.

Here's opening track.
