It's not as easy as people think to make the tournament consistently. Here is the current consecutive appearance list..

Michigan State 22 years - 1998..2019
Gonzaga 21 years - 1999..2019
Cincinnati 9 years - 2011..2019
North Carolina 9 years - 2011..2019
Villanova 7 years - 2013..2019
Kentucky 6 years - 2014..2019
Virginia 6 years - 2014..2019
Purdue 5 years - 2015..2019
Iona 4 years - 2016..2019
Michigan 4 years - 2016..2019
Seton Hall 4 years - 2016..2019
Florida State 3 years - 2017..2019
Florida 3 years - 2017..2019
Kansas State 3 years - 2017..2019
Nevada 3 years - 2017..2019
New Mexico State 3 years - 2017..2019
North Carolina Central 3 years - 2017..2019
Virginia Tech 3 years - 2017..2019
Arizona State 2 years - 2018..2019
Auburn 2 years - 2018..2019
Buffalo 2 years - 2018..2019
Georgia State 2 years - 2018..2019
Houston 2 years - 2018..2019
Montana 2 years - 2018..2019
Murray State 2 years - 2018..2019
Ohio State 2 years - 2018..2019
Oklahoma 2 years - 2018..2019
Syracuse 2 years - 2018..2019
Tennessee 2 years - 2018..2019
Texas Tech 2 years - 2018..2019

I not only love that this is a sad-sack kind of post, but that it indicates that Murray State makes the tournament more often without Prohm than it did with him. Well done.

Hard to say until we see how transfer season shakes out. I'd like to say that a tourney appearance should be the minimum expectation, but that might change significantly for better or worse depending on who leaves and who stays and who arrives. If I was to base it solely on who's projected to come back right now plus the addition of Javan Johnson and the incoming freshman class I'd call next year a developmental year and hope for a middle of the pack conference finish and a bubble team. But let's say for the sake of argument that TH decides to come back for one more season (unlikely, but you can't rule it out yet) and Prohm lands an impact transfer or two who can play immediately. That changes everything in a big way. Just too many unknowns right now.

Bare minimum prohm unkeesters his head and plays a two big lineup. With solo, conditt, and foster there is absolutely no reason to roll up with a 4 guard lineup, once this season died he should of been trying to learn how to play with conditt and solo. If we go 4 guards next year there is no reason prohm should make it out of next season with his job.

I love that "lower your expectations" is an actual argument people are making to defend Prohm. Heck who knows though, maybe it is our fault, the guy has underachieved every year here and we still set the bar high, even though he's shown us who he is. Sadly, I'm betting that changes this year.

All of the posters arguing that ISU BB fans need to lower their expectations rather than expect more success from our current coach- it sounds just like instant replays of the McDermott years.
