Is she coming back next year? It will be interesting to see if Bluder can parlay this year's success into an uptick in recruiting.

Not sure about officially, but she is making over a million a year and that will probably continue to grow as popular as she is. which is WAY more than the WNBA players get.
This was discussed before, but I could see her not only coming back for a senior year, but also using her COVID year. She could make a ton of money and set a bunch of college basketball records over the next two years.

I think she's a great player, and fun to watch. She's a generational talent that's helping to transform the profile of women's basketball.

I also don't care if ISU fans hate her for being a Hawkeye. That's part of sports rivalries. I don't dislike her, and outside of being a Hawkeye, I don't see any reason to. For many, that's enough.

She doesn't really have a choice for next year she's not eligible for the WNBA draft because she's not 22 and her original class doesn't graduate until next year. You can only leave early if you're old for your class or you took a redshirt year. The question would be if she does the extra COVID year and seems like she probably will. Even if some of the sponsorships follow her to the pros she's a lot more valuable to his sponsors in college, it's higher profile than the WNBA and she's probably the biggest star now. Even if she's a star in the WNBA it won't be to the degree she is in college. I'm sure Nike and Hy Vee are heavily pressuring her to stay

Way up there
I don't mind that she's cocky, makes the game fun but watching her scream in her teammates face for touching her during the Colorado game was pretty cringy. She's definitely buying into the hype, becoming very entitled about calls and such.

I can proudly say I have not watch more than a minute of any Iowa WBB game. I firmly believe that if the situation was reversed and ISU made the final four there wouldn't be as much hype surrounding Ashley Joens locally

I mean, look at the instance with Brock Purdy. He was getting national attention, but local media guys were saying, "Well without George Kittle he would be nothing"

She is creating a whole generation of young girls as Hok fans. Impact to ISUs WBB program TBD
And that's something that I believe some of us feeling that this is not just "she's going to be gone after next season". It's she is creating a fanbase, young girls want to be CC, want to play for the Hoks.

it was similar to when Hayden Fry ran the score against us. it wasn't just him beating us, it was him creating impressions on young fans that they want to be hoks - being Cyclone fans only gets you losses and beatdowns.

Iowa fans continuing to talk **** about Brock Purdy as he marched through the playoffs is the reason why I won't be cheering for Caitlyn Clark. Turnabout is fairplay.

Joens isn't as flashy as Clark is so of course she wouldn't get the same attention.

Well said. I think it is very embarrassing for ISU fans - and quite honestly the most “little brother” thing imaginable - to talk about her like she’s some ‘great thing’ for the state of Iowa or women’s basketball.

Every single time you hear someone say “this is good for the state!” Or “this is good for WBB!” - the correct and only translation is “this is good for the University of Iowa, only”.

Clark is a hawkeye. She acts like one too. She plays for a team whose success is ALWAYS BAD for Iowa State. Always. Every time that school wins in WBB, or ANY sport, it is a ‘negative’ for Iowa State. For Iowa State athletic success/growth/future/etc., there is no reality where it is ‘OK’ to “root for the state of Iowa” or an individual player from that school, ever. And if you don’t believe THEY too share this same exact feeling towards us, you are severely naïve.

Everyone has a right to think how they want or root for who they want to, or (falsely) believe there is some positive effect for Cyclone Nation from a hawkeye success story. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, their stances, etc. MY opinion is that I would prefer the people that serve our university and its athletics (including those affiliated with NIL, a Cyclone fan site, etc.) would not slob all over a hawkeye success story. Doing so ONLY benefits that school, and directly devalues our schoool.

Note: The term “hawkeye” is correctly not capitalized, out of disrespect of course.

Clark is the media and national darling at the moment. But we all know how fast people get tired of someone and that will happen with Clark soon enough. South Carolina probably can't wait to D her up Friday night after all of the press she has gotten. I have a bad feeling she won't play well and South Carolina will say see I told you Boston should have won this award.

I really didn't like her when we played her the previous two years - especially where it seemed like she pushed off on every play and flopped like crazy on defense. At least watching a couple games this year it seems like she's cleaned that up. My opinion on her has definitely changed over the last year - I'd say her game has grown and improved to where the "cockiness" is warranted. I've enjoyed watching her the last couple months and have been cheering for the Hawks to continue their run.

Bluder actually worked with her during the offseason to try to quit falling down so much to try and draw fouls.

Their 2023 class has two players, one of whom will never play (Ava Jones), and the other is a point guard. The point guard will not play much since Clark is a senior and has stated she will probably take her COVID year. She brought in a PG last year as a transfer, and she gets into most games but doesn't seem to play many minutes.

The 2024 class has two PG commits and a post player. The post player is a top 50 recruit.

Her class this year is small because Martin and Marshall are coming back for their COVID year. I've heard rumors there are two that will transfer out, but they are just that, rumors.

This covid year thing lasting so long is making a bigger mess than anything. There are players that come in and think if I redshirt a year I can see the court my second year, then a couple players say hey I'm taking that extra year and the other player gets to burn a year playing time to sit behind 5th or 6th year seniors. There are going to be players technically losing a year or not being able to go to their first choice because of the covid year.

Clark still has two more years left of eligibility and I expect she will utilize both years because she can probably make more money in college than she can in the WNBA.

I would think that most of her endorsements would still be available if she were a WNBA star. This is a huge win for Iowa as they are not taking money out of a collective to keep her. That could potentially free up some collective money to reel in a supporting cast.
