The most excited I have been watching a match for the Cyclones in a long time. I was screaming at the TV when Straw turned his guy, same with Bush! Kyven is a joy to listen to on the broadcast as well, brings an energy that hasn't been there in previous years.

Over the last year and a half, Breitenbach is 1-12 in duals, been pinned 5 times, teched twice, majored 4 times.

Wow. So Brady Jennings almost literally can't be any worse. I don't see any reason to not give him a chance then.

That was a great win for the program. They are on a good little stretch here of dual success. Not the top notch competition they hopefully can contend with, but I don't care -- seeing progress and getting dual wins are awesome to see! A couple upsets against the team and STILL pull it out with some gutsy performances and BONUS POINT victories. Looking to score points, pushing the pace, upsetting top 10 guys -- that's what progress in a season looks like. Colbray showing every one he isn't done yet! Good for the fan base that has stuck around through the tough years -- Hilton sounds like it was back to being a fun place for a dual.

Hope? No, I'd hope that Breitenbach could get things sorted out. But do I think he might? Yeah, he doesn't have any big wins or anything but he's racked up wins at the last two opens since moving up a weight so you might as well see what he can do when the lights are on. Honestly though I think a Diblasi that isn't trying to hold certification at 157 is probably our best option at 165 right now.
Beating the recent starter 8-0 and Jeremiah Moody (IA) may not be signature wins but way better than anything Logan has done the past two years. I will be disappointed if he doesn't get a shot or at least go back to Colston who seems to be improving. Otherwise, the lineup looks set except still not sold on Parker being able to manage the weight cut. Not the same wrestler in the first bouts of tournaments and duals as he is later in the day. He looked awesome in VA Duals because he didn't have to wrestle the first dual of the day. I'm guess a major concern for the coaches.

cywr89,
How do you see next year with Gomez, Simmons, Parker, Storr, Degen, Leisure and Straw battling for 4 spots? Anybody going up or down in weight?

The coaches are the highest on Gomez and he should be the 133 pounder. I would like to see everyone move up but I don’t think that will happen with Carr coming in. I see Carr RS and Storr, Degen and Straw keeping their spots. Wouldn’t surprise me a non-starter transfers.

I think Simmons is in the same situation Mikey England was a few years back and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he transferred.

It does appear that Parker is having a hard time holding 133, lately been hearing weight issues with Storr. I am not sure what is discipline and what is a big cut. Sometimes guys will benefit from going up a weight, but this only works if Degen and Straw need to go up a weight also.

Parker and Storr seem logical to move up given their rumored weight issues and we need Gomez in the lineup. Degan has the frame to hold more weight, so you would think given an offseason to plan it shouldn't be a problem. I think most likely then Carr fills the hole at 165 and Straw is depth. They days of guys pulling too much weight are over. Look at all the top teams, guys are generally moving up rather than down.

I think Straw is going to be to good to be a depth guy.

It would be great is Straw could go to 165, Degen to 157, and Storr to 149.

Degen wouldn't be as much of a length outlier at 157. I wonder how much that would impact him.
I totally agree. Degen's best weight (right now) is at 149. His length at that weight is a + for him..at 157 he loses that + a lot. I do think Parker would be better at 141..not sure Storr is better at 149 but he could be too. I suppose may the best man win!

When we can work in Gomez, Carr, Shapiro into the lineup with the other young talent already in the lineup, we'll be so much more competitive..add in Foca and hopefully lock down some of the blue chippers we're very in on in 2019 and we'll be right back in it.

Side note - Will be interesting to see where Carr starts at (157 or 165) - Foca is rumored to be a 165 lb prospect because he doesn't cut weight right now (170) but he is also still just a junior in high school so he will most likely keep growing..

Mackall
Gomez
Parker
Simmons
Storr
Degen
Straw
Carr
Foca
Coleman
Shapiro
Colbray
Duggan
Gremmel
Plus all the other guys coming in who could surprise people

I know I basically say this every post, but this team is going to be fun to watch in the near future.

Ian must be having a tough time with the cut. I am guessing we see Simmons this weekend.

That lineup will be fun!

Good to have some depth discussions again. With the guys on the roster, we will have some issues fitting them all into the lineup. That is great news for the program, and hopefully guys can fit into weights that make the most sense for them. I don't think any of these guys, so far, have proven to be "too good" to be a depth guy. If you want to be a top 5 program, some solid guys won't make the lineup. Whoever shows the most improvement will get the spots moving forward. It always seems to work itself out among guys who are good enough to get into the lineup. I think Carr coming in is the road block to too many guys moving up, as has been mentioned. Gomez to Carr is going to be a tough little part of the lineup in the next few years. Hopefully can develop someone to man the 125 spot with some success, and add in a few other recruits and you have yourself a program back in the top 5-10. Excited to see where it goes.

Actually think you can add Coleman in the 174 spot also

Degen is by far my fav wrestler and the biggest suprise so far this year. The way Degen is wrestling right now I don't see anyone beating him out next year if they need to bump up. (not even Storr) Being a tall skinny ex-wrestler myself it's not always easy for that body type to put on a bunch of weight. I agree with the above posters who say to keep his leverage (height) as an advantage and keep him at 149.

I'm also wanting to see Jennings get a shot at 165. Before this past tourney, and him beating St. John, I would have said DiBlasi should be the guy to move up because he pinned Jennings last year. However, DiBlasi can pin just about anybody the first time they wrestle and then lose the next time. I'd be open to either option at this point.

That was a great dual win and I'm definitely more excited about OU.
