My two cents on the state of things in Ames. Yesterday I said we stink, and I think most people agreed with that after watching the game. It was tough to take and embarrassing to say the least.
But who is to blame? Who actually stinks???

There is only one guilty party here and it is NOT the players. When I boo next week and do it loudly, it won't be directed at them.

I have a ton of respect for the players. Those guys put in a ton of work all year long and have to care about school at the same time. Sure some of them get scholarships, but for the most part, being a D1 football player is a grind. Especially on a bad team.

Those guys are trying their best, but they are outmatched right now and it shows.

ALL of the blame from me goes to the coaches. They are the ones who stink right now!

Yes, coaches are not on the field, players are, but holy crap they are bad right now.

Wally stinks.
Paul stinks.
And yes, JP stinks too for allowing this to get so bad and for extending CPR in the first place.

Sure, winning at ISU is tough, but at least be smart enough to come up with a way to be competitive. Getting massacred by Tech should not happen.
Having a 5th year QB not improving is just as much about bad coaching as it is a lack of skills.

These coaches get paid well. I would be embarrassed to cash my paycheck this week.
In fact, in the few real estate deals I have screwed up, I told the client to just keep their money. I didn't feel I earned it so I didn't want it.
Right now, the coaches aren't earning their dough. They stink.

Who else is at risk of stinking? Us, the fans. We will all STINK unless we demand better for the school that we love. This is garbage right now. Let JP and Leath know we expect better.
That starts with firing everyone and starting over.

AMEN!! Totally agree.

This is not the players fault at all. It is the coaching staff's job to win football games. It is their responsibility for recruiting the kinds of players needed to win football games. It is their jobs, if the recruits aren't ready to play as freshmen, to develop them and get them ready to win football games as juniors or seniors. And it is their job, if players just aren't good enough and are deemed to be recruiting failures to recruit over them and get someone in here that can do the job and win football games.

It is ALL up to them how the product on the field is performing. They are getting huge dollars to do just that. And the great ones not only do that, but also don't take any credit for it when they do. They give the players the credit. And if they don't win, the good coaches take the blame too, and don't lay it on the players.

Rhoads is not only losing, but he's also now blaming the players for the losses. This is the most pathetic response a coach can have IMO. This is a coach that knows he's in over his head and his days are numbered, and now is trying to save face by blaming his players instead of himself in the hopes he can possibly still land on his feet somewhere else because afterall.... none of this was his fault, right? It was the players fault.

Rhoads is not in a good situation right now and he knows it.

JP stinks for extending Paul's contract, huh? He extended it when Paul had taken us to another bowl game, an uncommon occurrence for Iowa State. Paul was on other schools' short lists and Pollard had to act quickly to keep a coach who was successful and who was honored to be our coach. It was a gamble by Pollard, but a smart one given Iowa State's history. But folks like you, with perfect 20/20 hindsight, have courage to anonymously say he stinks for doing that.

Your post stinks.

Jp needs to hit the road before this next hire if not sooner.

You know who doesn't stink? The Running backs coach. He's the only one that I want to stay.

Agree. The only one I'd want to keep as well.

Some people have shown love on here for Linguist, the d-backs coach, but I've always thought he was terrible too. Our d-backs hardly ever make a play on the ball.... never turn around to see the ball. They are coached horribly.

For example, take away Mahomes from Tech and I think the game is a lot closer...do we win, probably not, but it sure makes a BIG DIFFERENCE, no?
According to CW and Woody, Mahomes was at 70-75% (due to injury) & he absolutely torched us! Webb came in and their offense was still moving the ball effectively. But, I think the final score may have been more like 52-31 instead of 66-31. Ayeni is the only one I trust as far as coaches go. Gotta keep him - the others can go.

I think the issue with DBs is due to Paul keeping a hand in that area. I think Paul wrecked Tribune.

Did you watch the game?

If we don't throw an INT first play of the game (spot them an easy 7), then begin to NOT convert on 3rd downs.....UM, yeah, that helps the other score more points.....why do you think Kansas State stays in games with a 3rd/4th string QB?! Because, they don't turn it over like us, or they convert on 3rd downs, OR BOTH. Plain & Simple.

College football is a lot about momentum and when you give Tech that kind of field possession to start the game and give the ball away, then you put yourself at the bottom of the momentum meter.

Dude... we gave up 66 points and 776 yards. But sure, that first INT really set the tone and otherwise it would have been a ballgame, so it's all the QB's fault. We're just a QB away!

1. If you think we are a good QB away from being decent, I'll direct you to the defensive stats for the past 2.5 years. Tom Brady at QB would have lost yesterday with a defense giving up 66 points.

2. Rhoads is the 2nd lowest paid coach in the Big 12. So we are getting exactly what we pay for.

I don't want him to have more money. Let's do a pay as you go...

Solution: let's pay Rhoads more!

Problem is the team does not stink, they are just put in impossible positions

The play calling was horrible, the decision making of when to kick and not go for it was terrible

They were gashing them with run, but abandoned it in the 2nd qtr for 2 possessions in a row and the deficit just grew.

The defense dropping 8 in coverage 12 yards off the ball was garbage. Zero blitzes and allowed an experienced qb pick is part was unfair to the players

CPR MM and Rhoads should take their checks and reimburse the fans

The 8 guys we had in coverage consistently gave up monster plays to Tech's receivers. How you watched the game and missed that is amazing.

Yeah, because a QB with no pressure really helps those 8 stay glued, eh?

Agreed 100%... We are not THIS bad because of our players. We are THIS bad because our coaches have been as bad as it gets in D1 football. I mean Horrible. Agreed on the fans as well. Stop accepting it. Its hard because that literally means stop going. So I think that is just what I will do. My 6 seats will be empty until JP demands we do better then what we are. Our coaches have zero clue to what is going on. When I read the Mangino had to study the pistol to come here and coach it i wanted to puke. I mean always be studying and putting in new things. But he should have a base he has come to master. Where is that?!
