If the thread won't die, let's fix something.

I wish someone would tell me why the Bulls job is so special - just because he played there I suppose. He could ask Tim Floyd. Anyway he, (here we go) in my view given his recent medical issue is not going to jump to the NBA right now. He's got a heck of a teaming coming up, his twins I think are in middle school now and he has said many times he wants to coach them so I think we should all just chill out and set our sights on some great transfers.

Don't want to read all these threads, but just want to post that I think Romar's quote about the next few months is:

1. More likely about him leaving Washington than Fred leaving Iowa State.
2. More likely about Iowa State being great and Washington not.
3. More likely about TJ having something personal happening here in Iowa.

Joining the thread late, but from what I'm hearing take it as you will..

People from inside the program are pretty uncertain about Hoiberg's future. Bulls job opening would be Fred leaving. About anywhere else he will be staying in Ames. I would be pretty shocked if the Bulls job didn't open up, sadly. It's all speculation at this point from everyone. This is what I have just been hearing and thought I would pass it along.

If Fred leaves, GT will not be back next year. He leaves for Greece right after school is over and will turn pro if Fred leaves to the NBA.

A source close to the situation put it as 50-50 whether or not Fred leaves for the NBA.

Not trolling at all, past posts speak for themselves so up to you if you care about what I'm posting. Just passing along what I hear.

So people inside the program are uncertain about his future, what you posted is speculation and its 50-50 he leave for the NBA at some point.

So basically only Fred knows and has really said nothing about going to the NBA.

Regardless who is our coach this coming year, or what conversations TJ & Fred may have had, or TJ subsequently had with Romar, ... Romar should never had said what he said. Look, I know he doesn't owe ISU anything. But you just don't tell a reporter, "you'll see in a couple of months" and "I'll leave it at that". To me, that was pretty unprofessional, regardless of what angle you're interpreting it from. Even if its nothing to do with Fred. Its almost like using it as negative recruiting. We don't need all these new scholarship players we're trying to sign in the next few weeks to be wondering if their future coach is who they're expecting it to be.

This is all starting to feel like Floyd 2.0. Every year the same rumors, every year fans sit and speculate. Kinda hoping we were done with this crap.......

Once a cyclone, always a cyclone I guess.

If Fred leaves this year his legacy as a coach at ISU will be half baked. He'll always be a beloved figure at ISU, but it will always be about what may have been rather than what was. Depends on how important that is to him.

funny, I made a lot of these points yesterday, as did you, and was lambasted about how there is 0 chance Fred leaves for NBA... I just see it as a real possibility, although I definitely don't want it to happen...

and although ugh he may not want the Bulls job to be open this year, and would prefer it to be next year, the fact is it may be this year OR who knows when again if he passes..

and to to those who say he hates losing too much for NBA, take this into consideration...a loss at ISU probably puts 10x the stress on him as an NBA loss does....he is worshipped here, and I think feels SO much pressure not to let people down here....it has been said behind the scenes, as well as mentioned openly, how stressful this year was on him....being out of Ames and in the NBA may be an easier life, despite the amount of games, as he will not feel the pressure of letting down an entire fan base so close to him....

all speculation, but my guess on Diallo is Fred didn't go see him as Diallo said he was not considering if Fred was not 100% for sure next year ( yeah, go ahead and slam how silly that is....same for Williams leaving to follow Matt, wants to know one of his contacts would be at ISU next year and left when not guaranteed).

TJ coming back would also protect our current roster as he has relationships with our key guys....so there is some familiarity if Fred goes, where we still have the pieces to make a run next year...

He may stay, but it's not the definite lock that a lot of you are stating...and I understand that as a Cyclone fan, we want to convince ourselves it's not happening.... And I sure hope it doesn't....but nervous for sure...

So you think Fred admitted to a HS recruit that he wasn't 100% sure on next year and that young man has kept that to himself? But the Washington coach didn't keep that private and threw Hoiberg under the bus? And our coach-in-waiting is a guy who cant get a mid-major job?

This season was hard on Fred and we were horrible fans melting down at every possible moment. Matt said it hurt, Fred said it hurts, Pollard said it hurts. Maybe we need to shut this ***** down For a while. You guys are out of control. Otz would make a ton of sense. I want fred, but if not I am supportive of continuity of hoiball. I will support Hoiberg in whatever he does and root for him. If he thinks Otz is our best bet I 100% support. Either way it's going to be alright I mean it's a freaking game guys.

If you think ISU fans are bad, you should see what fans of pro teams are like. We treat Fred with kid gloves here. At the slightest bit of adversity the fan base in Chicago will crucify him. He knows that. He's not stupid. Don't give me this "coaching at ISU is too hard on him" crap. If he goes to the pros, especially a market like Chicago, he is signing up for scrutiny and pressure that is orders of magnitude higher.

He also thinks that the Bulls already guaranteed him the job while the season is ongoing and not interviewing any other candidates and is kept quiet from everyone. He then thinks that Fred is keeping it quiet from JP, yet convinced JP to hire TJ "just in case." He then thinks JP doesn't know anything, quickly hired an assistant, just in case, to guarantee a job that isn't open and not considering any other candidates, but again, doesn't know anything. He then thinks TJ kept it quiet to all but Romar, who then spilled the beans and it "makes sense" it's all coming together.

They then spin it like the rest of us are in complete denial that Fred will never go to the NBA, when most of us know that will happen someday, and definitely not coming from Romar of all people.

This thread keeps getting more and more insane.

Are you assuming Bulls fans will be more patient and kind to Fred?
If Fred took the Bulls job, he just became the HC of the only NBA team in the 3rd largest city in the United States. With a metro of 9.5 million people, he will be under a microscope.
If you think we were hard on Fred, just wait until he has a bad season in Chicago. The media that are begging for him and praising him now? Those same people will be calling for his head after they see it might not work out and he should have stayed in College.
Fred has it good now and he knows that. He could also have it good in Chicago, but he could also have it 10x worse than it would ever be at ISU.

And Matt A. being gone and Otz coming back and Williams. Not that anyone listening to what CW is signaling couldn't piece those togethor too. But he is at least 5-0 in the last 2 months. I would have made all those predictions too except the senior day one as the tea leaves are pretty clear to anyone paying attention.

That said leaving is tough and I dont think anyone knows for certain but Fred but he 07 didnt say anything except that. I do think Otz is the guy that takes over if and when he leaves assuming Pollard is still here. I have almost left Iowa a couple times too for great jobs but thinking about it and doing it are two different things. The safe bet is always staying family friends and a sure thing doing a job you love are hard to walk away from. If that last one changes though all bets are off It becomes a lot easier. Cyclone fans should spend less time worrying and more time showing Fred how supportive of fans we are. Biitching abut recruiting strategy or Otz or anything is just making it that much easier to leave. We should have had a welcome home Fred party for him today or sent thousands of get well coach cards to him. The thing that is gonna keep him here is his love for this place and our love of him and the special connection he has here. He is the ******* mayor. **** uab, **** diallo, **** williams, **** losing to Baylor and kstate, **** tech, **** BDJ, this things sucker but dozens more things were amazing, that's hoiball. He is ISU. I hope he stays I love the guy. He represents the best of Iowa. So quit belly aching and start supporting Fred and our program because that is what makes us special. A lot of you guys forgot that the last 6 months.

Public Policy Polling has a poll in the field this week and of the 125 Iowa State fans they surveyed on the first night 0 disapprove of the job Fred is doing. :)

So you got burned and you can never trust again? what makes you guys think this is such a secret. Hines said this is accepted as fact on the national scene.

You apparently totally missed the point of that article.

Smoke usually equals fire around here. Fred leaving would pretty much devastate me. Hoping for the best but this Otz thing is weird.

I hate to say it, but I think he's gone. I don't have any information, other than in the last month, what affirmative talk has there been (other than Pete selling papers) that he will be around next season? Even TJO rebuttal in the rag was very noncommittal.
