That's a nice tip, but can you imagine eating at the same restaurant every night for three weeks? They could've used some of that $10,000 and gotten some variety.
I will second this... I travel for work quite a bit... I usually go to the same hotels and same restaurants in each town I frequent. When you live on the road you are not looking for variety. You are looking for consistency. Eating in the same place everyday is kind of a mental substitute for home. You don't want surprises. I lived on the road for 2 1/2 years once. If you find a good eating or drinking place you tend to stick with it as long as you are in town.
That happens out in Vegas all the time. A friend told me that he knew a girl that was waitressing at the Hard Rock and spilled a drink on a highroller near the pool. She was freaked out and he asked here name. She begged not to get fired but he said not to worry, he ended up paying off her mortgage.
My dad and mom were having dinner at a local restaurant... The table next to them was 2 older couples. My parents overheard them talking about their recent trip to Washington DC as part of an "honor flight" (see History & Vision)When I get to be obscenely wealthy, this is precisely what I plan on doing.
(No joke) My wife and I have already done scaled-down versions of this already, and Friday, I get to pay off part of a grad student's room and board at a conference. It's not $10,000, but it's a great way to a) feel good. b)encourage some types of behavior you find exemplary.
