I must say, we were treated very well by Hawk fans the entire day. From different Hawk tailgates to a mixed Clones/Hawks section in the game, not one time was anyone disrespectful to us? In fact, most were welcoming. I was expecting much worse treatment, but, for those I was around, I was impressed with their behavior.

Agreed. I had a lot of bad experiences to tell from the day, but equally if not more good stories. Met some great Hawk fans and had some good discussions. But this is a message board, and it's a rivalry, so only the bad comes out.

edit: I wouldnt say more, a lot less, but it wasn't all bad.

I had a similar experience. I was walking to the woods to take a leak as they only had a few porta potties for a bazillion people (that and they were throwing empties at clones, and boys werent allowed in the porta potties unless they needed to deuce, which is understandable), and this bigger girl walks up to me and pokes me in the chest. She says something along the lines of "What the hell is wrong with you, like how can you be an Iowa State fan? I mean did all of your family go there, or are you just straight up ********?" (slang for handicap, didn't know that was banned). I told her my family aren't big sports fans and that I went to Iowa State, and then asked her where she went to college. She stumbled away with no response.

So... Alone in the woods with a girl who obviously wants you, and you didn't get any?

One Hawkeye fan asked my opinion on Richardson and afterwards asked me who would win in a race, Rudock or Richardson. We obviously disagreed but I had a good laugh about it.

I haven't been to IC to tailgate for about 6 years, but I never had any of these personal confrontations. Sure, I experienced an occasional "F State" walking down Melrose and in Olive Court, but that was expected. For the most part, I always experienced a fun atmosphere.

The big complaint from my sister, brother-in-law and father (Iowa fan) was that the seats in the endzone were way to crowded. They said it was like you were sitting on the person next to you the whole game. My Dad almost left at half and didn't feel like coming back.

I went to the ISU vs IA game in 2008, and will not go back to IC for another ISU vs IA game due to that experience. I had beer cans thrown at my truck as my wife left the lot, and then woke up the next day at our hotel in Corallville with eggs all over my truck. I said that is the last time I would go to and ISU game in IC. My sister and brother-in-law even tried to get me to go this year as they had an extra ticket and I turned it down.

One other funny story, I took my Dad to the IA vs Central Michigan game a couple years ago since my Dad had never been to Kinnick. My motorhome had an ISU sticker on the back of it, so I got crap from the guy I parked next so much to the point that he called over the parking division stating that I didn't have a parking pass for that lot. Which I did. Then the next day his generator wouldn't start, I offered mine but he turned it down. About halfway through the tailgate I was asked by one of his tailgating friends if they could us my generator as well, and I said sure. It was just funny because this guy was to good to use my stuff since I was and ISU fan.

2 memorable experiences.

1....after the targeting hit, for the next 4 plays the guy next to me kept yelling, that's targeting too, throw him out.

I kindly asked if he even knew what the rule was. He was quiet after that.

2. In the pisser line in q2, hawk can I asked what I thought so far....I said it like watching a pillow fight of two fat girls so far.

I said, just waiting for basketball to start, he was gushing about how great Hoiberg is and knew about us getting college game day. He was very jealous

Overall, I had a great day. We had a company sponsored tailgate next to the tent with the '04 Hawk team honored during the game. All good natured ribbing, but everything in fun. When we entered the game, we were in a primarily Hawk section, but I was impressed with the number of folks wearing ISU gear. The students were all standing in the aisles, until about mid way through the first quarter when the cops finally ran them out. I had a great, knowledgable football conversation with the young man standing next to me, a junior in PoliSci planning to go to law school.

There was a young lady a bit more happy from barley juice behind him that kept saying, "Sam Richardson Sucks!, to which I replied, "Which one?" She said, "The Iowa State one." I replied, "You do know there are two?" She replied, "Uh, no" Then a little bit later I heard her yell, "Sam Richardson sucks...the QB one!" If I have to put up with obnoxious fans, at least i want them to be informed!

It was sweet that by the end of the game there were more Cyclone fans in the stadium than Hawk fans.

There is a definitive difference between Illinois Hawkeye fan itinerants and the locals. The Illinois kids are insufferable.....more a trait of their generation than location really. Local people know we have to live togehter.
I was there.....and stayed low profile. I don't want hawk fans hooting at Jack Trice, so I tried to be considerate when we did well.....I saw some Cyclone fans hooting...and then being patronizing.......I am sure that will only make the burn more intense with your uneducated WT hawk fan. I was surprised how much WT there was there.......it was like meth addicts in fancy mom jeans there or something.

OK, throwback story from 2002. I was there with my Hawk B-I-L and his friends. Late in the first half, when they were drubbing us, a 50-something Hawk behind me stood up and yelled "We ain't Florida State!". Late third quarter/early fourth quarter when we were up 33 or 30-24, I turned around to tell him he was right, they weren't Florida State, but he was already gone...

Hey I was there too. It was cool to see some of the players. My dad who is an Iowa fan and I were trying to figure out who the big red head guy with the full beard was.

Why I never returned to iowa City. I hate the huskers but they never treated fans like ****.

Not true. Consider yourself lucky for not experiencing it, but please dont go around saying that they dont because they do.
