I also really dont like UNI. Their fans are geetting very smug this year. HMMMM... what other fanbase does that remind me of? And I really dont think that its a national championship if you play at lower division football, baseball, basketball, etc. whatever. If you dont play with the big boys, i could care less.

I hope one day I have the chance to become smug and cocky. Go Chiz!!!!!

it's a cheap ticket for some great college football.

BUT, the UNI-Dumb is just an awful place to watch sports. Two of my daughters went to school there. I've been to several football and basketball games ... it's just a wrong arena. Boring for football, mis-configured for basketball. Haven't yet been to the McLeod Center, but good idea to get roundball out of the Dumb.

I just got chewed at by my fiance for thinking the same thing. I hate UNI and their fans. Mainly because 3/4 of them are HAWK fans that only chear for them cause their team is terrible. I can't stand it... And I don't have to cheer for them. Who cares about their season. Do their fans get behind us when we had a chance to win the Big 12 North a few years back??? Heck no....
I don't know any UNI fans:smile:. It's kind of like following a local high school team. They are at a little lower level, and it's fun to watch them succeed.

Grew up a Cyclone fan, but attended UNI in college. Still root like crazy for the Cyclones, but now I am a Panther at heart. I have attended each of the past two Cyclone bowl games and plan to attend in the future once Chizik gets this thing going again. But honestly, I am kicking myself in the butt for missing the
UNI championship game a few years ago cuz I already had tickets for Houston. I don't care if it is 1AA or 1A, give them some props. They are good year in and year out. I don't like the Hawks either, but I cheer for them when they aren't playing the Cyclones or the Panthers. They are all Iowa teams. Come out of your 1A bubbles and give them some credit. They are DAMN good this year. At least there is one team in the state this year representing our state. You people talking trash about the UNI fans need to realize how you are sounding to the UNI and Hawk fans. I sense a little jealousy because the Panthers are having some tremendous success. Put your egos behind you and cheer for the ONE good team in the state this year.

I think a good reason to cheer for them is because most of the coaches and players are from Iowa. Coaches and players that ISU and EIU passed on.

Maybe, but that doesn't make them less annoying. I wouldn't like ISU if we were 1AA either. I would have went to school elsewhere. Basically what it comes down to is I don't care for 1AA any more than I do 2A or 3A college football. It just doesn't matter.

Are you saying you wouldn't have gone to ISU had they been Division 1AA in football? I chose my undergraduate school based on its academics, not its athletics. I went to a Division III college, but, being from Ames, I still rooted for ISU. I did choose ISU for graduate school, but not because of its sports teams.

The UNI fans annoy the living **** out of me. Most of them are Iowa fans as well.

There's a big deal that they packed 16k into the Dome for a game. Sixteen thousand? Golly gee.

I was really hoping I wouldn't be the only person to pick up on that...utterly ridiculous.

Because we pack 50,000 into JT to see a team get beat makes it better to see 16,000 in the Dome to see a team win makes it better in Ames. I am confused. I would love to see the Cyclones competing for a National Cahmpionship some year, but we know that will never happen. I am not so sure that they would be competing for a National Championship in 1AA??? Maybe the Clones should petition to be 1AA, since they pack in 50,000 inthere stadium they would be a shoe in to win the 1AA title. UNI is a small school. They don't have the resources nor the numbers to be 1A, One thing is for sure, if they were 1AA this year they would be ranked much higher than the Cyclones this year. Yeah, that isn't going to be the case too often, but is the case this year. Get off your 1A horse and give a damn good team their credit. UNI dome 16,000, team 8-0, #1 in the country, JT 55,000+, team 1-7, rank??. If there weren't lower divisions, there sholdn't be collegiate athletics at any other schools other than the big ones. Give the lower divisions some credit. If I am not mistaken, there have been quite a few 1AA upsets over 1A schools this year. 1AA football is very competitive, and we have one of the best 1AA teams in the country right here in Iowa. Go Panthers!

Quick history here: Born a Clone, went to ISU for a year, then UNI for 3 1/2 years. I ran the field wearing my purple and gold in "92 when UNI beat ISU for the first time.

Ok that's over with....I sat there today hoping Youngstown State would pull it out. I too have gotten a little tired of their chest-pumping. D1AA boys, that's all you are. Good job beating us, great, enjoy it, because it's the last time it will ever happen under GC and Co.

Oh....it's true, they are all mostly Hawk fans. I lived up there for 7 years, it's Hawkeye country. You give those students free Hawk tickets today, they're fast-tracking down the interstate and skipping they're beloved Panthers game.

Also, 3 minutes into my first game in the Dome I realized football was truly meant to be played outside. The Dome atmosphere sucks!!! (I also worked in the Dome)

I don't have a problem with the "full time" UNI fans. The bandwagon ones really annoy me though. Pull for your team when they are bad and fill that dome up when you aren't ranked #1 and we can talk.
I have a hard time respecting a fan base that only fills 60% of their stadium on average most years, regardless of which division they play in.

I don't think anyone is jealous, and I don't think anyone is really bashing the actual football team. People are bashing the fanbase. I think that is clearly justified.

I doubt you would find many people in the state that would say UNI isn't the best team in the state. It doesn't mean I have to cheer for them.

Nobody is saying you have to cheer for UNI, but seriously, why the hell do some of you have this stupid sense of entitlement that you are automatically a better person just because you cheer for or went or are going to a BCS school, which is what I'm getting from some of you by reading this thread. If you don't want to pay attention to smaller divisions, that's fine, but don't get all high and mighty and look down your nose at it. That's elitist and silly, and considering ISU's record so far this season, downright moronic.

See, that's the sort of comment that irritates me. Somehow our pulling for ISU and not caring about UNI despite ISU having a bad record is elitist and silly? Somehow our value as fans is related to the success of our team?

I have nothing against UNI as a Cyclone fan. I have nothing against the Royals as a Cubs fan. I'm just indifferent. I also think most of the fair weather UNI fans are annoying. When UNI isn't good, they are busy being Hawk fans, mostly, so you dont have to put up with them. That's reason enough to root against UNI in my book.

Agreed with this response

How do we sound like Hawk fans on this one. Most Hawk fans are Panther fans or vise versa. Not cheering for a team doesn't mean we are petty, uppity, irrational or jealous. Means that we don't like them

Full time fans are great, but most fans aren't... Before this year they haven't filled the dome in like almost 10 years. Come on.

Why do people feel like they need to tell us who to cheer for? I'm a Cyclone, no where does it say that we must be respectful and cheer for everyother team because we usually suck.

Jumbopackage, I'm not suggesting that as a Cyclone fan that you have an obligation to cheer for UNI. If you like them, great. If not, that's your right. What makes my blood boil (as a Panther alumni), are some of the posts in this thread talking about how UNI's fan base is getting too full of themselves and cocky. So what now, UNI fans shouldn't be happy with being undefeated and ranked #1 in their division? Another one that makes me shake my head was one poster mocking the sell-outs in the UNI-Dome this season for only being able to hold 16,000+ people. Huh? That disparaging remark is so non-sensical I don't even know how to respond to it.

Examples of this type of attitude are what irritates me. This occasional beleif by some Cyclone fans, fueled by this BCS-attitude that because ISU is a bigger, BCS school, we are automatically always better and more superior. This thread isn't the first time I've seen it. A couple of years ago in basketball when UNI kicked ISU's a$$ there were a few Cyclone fans who were saying things like, "Oh, they're still just UNI, they're still just a little nobody school....." and other stupid crap like that, not realizing that they sounded exactly like Hawk fans talking about ISU. I know that we don't like it when Hawk fans call ISU the "little brother" program in the state. Why should UNI like it when we call them the "little brother", especially when they are competitive with us in a lot of sports?

I won't and have never called them little brother.... I still dont' have to like them. So sorry. I will always respect them, but that is probably as far as it will go.

Its was your choice to go to UNI and be a Cyclone fan. It was my choice to go to ISU and only be a Cyclone fan. All about choices and how you feel about other colleges.
