You do realize that Kentucky made it to the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game and lost by just 6 pts last year right?

ISU was eliminated in a road game by the team that beat UK for the championship without one of our star players so yes we are all aware of the title game. You can probably pound sand about how awesome it was for #1 seed WSU to lose to Kentucky in the second round last year given ISU got dealt a tougher matchup in the sweet 16 down a key component.

Those types of upsets happen frequently even to "power" teams. Look at the cream of the Big12 in just the Bill Self years. Kansas has lost in the first round as a 3 seed & 4 seed. They've also been the overall #1 seed (WSU wasn't overall #1) and lost in the second round.

Just saying, ISU got knocked out by a better NCAA tournament team than Kentucky last year in a virtual road game. Not exactly what we need to be impressed by WSU.

I thought they were legit with Early, without him they are a cute team that is 0-3 against good teams this year. Yawn.

You know, as a UNI fan, I still like ISU and Hoiberg. But I don't get the elitism. I think all the teams in our state ought to have respect for one another at this point. Though experience tells me that the cesspool in Iowa City is unlikely to find its was to being respectful. Anyway, let me give you some friendly suggestions of reasonable, respectful replies to Gary Rima's statement:

1. "Gary Rima is such a homer. He admits it. He loves his team - glad he can believe in them."
2. "You may love your team and believe in them, but executing is another thing. We love our team, too, and they got the better of us in Kansas. Beating those teams in their houses is easier said than done."
3. "Hope you get the chance. I think you know you haven't had many chances like that so far this year - and you lost the one at VCU. Though it was a close one."
4. "It's amazing that a school like UNI could be in a position to make those claims and potentially back it up - even if it would only be 3 times out of 10. Keep winning!"
5. "It just does not make sense that a MVC school should be able to claim what you're claiming. Beat a school like ISU or Kansas? Come on. We're P5. Have you seen our recruits? Facilities? etc.? But then I have to remember that the longest thread (ever?) on CycloneFanatic involves outrage against an audacious claim by an NDSU fan that they would beat our Football team in 2014. We thought they were nuts then, but they did it. And we thought it was ridiculous that UNI fans claimed they would have the best running back on the field in 2013... and it turned out to be not so ridiculous. So maybe you guys know your team and your ridiculous claims aren't so ridiculous now..."

Purple Iowa is a much shorter response.

I don't understand how you can even argue that you'd beat some of the best P5 schools in the country at their own place. I really don't.

TLDR, but...

Yeah 0-3 against good teams and undefeated against cupcakes is a cute team, I was referencing WSU when I called them cute. I'm calling UNI a good team there in case you didn't notice. There should be very little credit given to teams that don't have a quality win.

UNI fans can talk about what can happen or what might have happened had they played one team or another, but they don't play anyone in the Valley. That's why their SOS of 116 represents the worst of all the teams ranked in the top 25 of RPI.

KU, who apparently many UNI fans think they can beat, is #2 RPI and #1 SOS. OU is #13 RPI, #5 in SOS. ISU is #16 RPI and #21 SOS.

In other words UNI would get destroyed by all of us. (KU, OU, and ISU) especially on the road. If they played all three games, I would guess the loss margin would average out to about 15 points.

The gap will only widen as well.

I'll be the first to admit I'm a ring leader of it, but the B12-B10 smack is often overinflated when it comes to SOS. With WSU/UNI it's very legit. ISU was 14-0 last year non-conf playing a slightly tougher slate than WSU, they played a tough conference and WSU played an easy one, then in the NCAA tournament Iowa State was the better team and got knocked out by a better team. There's every reason to believe ISU was just as entitled to a #1 seed as WSU last year, truthfully ISU should have been a 2 or 3, WSU should have been a 3. This year WSU should be a 6 or lower unless they blowout UNI the next two games they play, they have ZERO quality wins...TULSA...that's it.

Yes... did you ever watch them play? They (as always) had a wealth of talent on that team but they didn't play up to their potential a lot of the time.

As noted in the ESPN write up after the snuck away with a win over a mediocre K-State team in the 1st round of that NCAA Tournament....

"The victory is the start of what Kentucky hopes is an NCAA tournament of validation. The team stocked with highly recruited freshmen has been criticized for failing to live up to some lofty expectations, losing several times to overmatched and undermanned opponents."

So not much different than ISU in those two road games?

This entire thing is about Rima predicting wins at both KU and OU. That's the point here. There's probably less than a 5% chance that that would happen.

And that's really worth 19 freakin' pages? Granted, I probably have at least 10 posts on this thread, so I'll make this one the last one. Anyway, if any fan base (or bases) is going to be so full of rage at what an admitted homer said about his team and their ability to hypothetically win on the road, hell, it should be Kansas and Oklahoma.

I dont think and ISU fans give a damn if UNI fans are bent out of shape about us talking about it.

Some dude said a ******* thing that even UNI fans agree is a ******* thing to say. ISU just lost with no game for 5 days and UNI just got ranked above ISU with their best ranking in history with a schedule that's easier than Iowa State's and UNI fans are just now getting a little cocky. It's a perfect storm. This is an extremely high traffic message board.

This thread would've been one page if no UNI fans came in here and started arguing.

UNI is good but I'm not calling them top 15 and definitely not better than ISU until they prove it against real competition.

ITT: A lot of UNI fans agreeing that the statement was dumb and demanding ISU fans pretend it was not and that ISU fans should not be talking about it.

You guys can go talk about whatever you want on your own message board and I promise I won't be on there telling you what to post.

I was staying away from this but now I've been sucked back in...

UNI would have loved to get to play Iowa State and we'd have our answer, but it was Iowa State who chose to not play UNI. On the old schedule this game would have been in Hilton this year, but apparently it was too important to make sure that Iowa State could get Lamar and Mississippi Valley State on the schedule.
