Dresser did what he could to put this injury riddled team in a position to win, Uni was just better/smarter/helped by the ref in all the matches we had to have.

Evan, Chittum were fantastic.

Herrera had a great weekend. Was that two ranked wins for him?

Bockman takes one for the team. A warrior. Why didn’t you come here sooner??

I like Jacob in the rematch. I like mj in the rematch too.

No words for Paniro’s day
I mentioned in a different thread awhile back, I wish we could’ve seen what EB could’ve been with 5 yrs with this staff. I would love to clone his DNA and desire then inject both into every ISU wrestler.

Don’t agree with the 2 pointer at the end.
We all can be disappointed with Paniro and Dresser has to take the stance he took, Paniro was gassed.

The problem is how inconsistent stalling is called by officials. You don’t see that many stall calls in that short amount of time ever called, ever. We need to remind ourselves how many times we see guys just running at the end of matches and nothing is called. Why is that ok? The 2 point stall call was suspect. The call showed bias by the referee that he 100% knew the match would go to OT with the call. The UNI coach and crowd of course also had a huge impact on the call. JMO.

Hopefully Paniro is ok and learns from it.

I haven't looked at other results around the conference, but I would give Chittum the nod over Herrera, knocking off #19 and #5. By comparison, Herrera beat #26 and #14. I wouldn't argue either way though.
Yes, good cases for both. If I read the rankings correctly, both of Herrera's opponents were higher ranked than he, while one of Chittum's opponents was lower ranked. On the other hand, Chittum's in AA territory by beating #5.

My thoughts in Paniro. I have never seen anyone gas that hard. He backed up the entire match. He is so inconsistent with his effort it drives me nuts. The kid is so talented but unfortunately I don’t see how this version can be consistent in March.

That being said I know he has a medical issue. I was extremely worried about him when he wasn’t getting up. But that doesn’t sound like that was the cause of the problem yesterday. The crazy thing is it wasn’t like he did much during the match to gas himself like that.

I was there. Good atmosphere. Good for College Wrestling.

I know of some good that Schwab is done in the community. Some things that I’d call “good guy” things. I’ve always been on the fence about him. Until today. That guy is an absolute ass clown. Like total petulant child. Pissing and moaning so consistently while staring at the refs and then CONSTANTLY staring over at our staff to try to see if they were looking at him. I am not kidding when I say once ever 7 to 8 seconds. I counted it… with my phone. You know how often our staff looked at their corner? Almost never. Because they didn’t give a ****. Schwab wants attention so bad from clearly what he views as big brother for some reason that it is just horrible look. That guy is a joke.
Agree. I'm really conflicted on Schwab. I think he's a really, really good coach and he runs a great program. I've met his boys and wife and they're all super polite. But his behavior yesterday was SO over the top, he lost me. If T&T did exactly the same thing, we'd be calling for them to be suspended. And I had a couple guys a few rows in front of me calling for stalling two seconds after our guys took shots. The whole scene would have fit at Carver.

Different circumstance, but it reminded me of when the ref defaulted out Schuyler when he was helplessly under Cassioppi. Super quick repeated stall calls in an effort to get to a desired result. Not excusing Paniro's performance at all though.

Well it's not and everyone that regularly follows the sport knows what we were going up against and what we have been dealing with so I guess thank goodness the wrestling fans aren't MBB or FB fans
In the guy's defense, I think that was his point. I don't think he is wants a coaching change. That would be dumb and crazy.

The concern with Osmany was always making the cut and adjusting to folkstyle/living in the US. The hope was he’d be able to make it and maintain, but that never materialized.

Castillo does not have to adjust to folkstyle and 125 won’t be a massive cut for him.
Both Yonger and Ech struggled their 1st couple years. Hope the future is brighter for Osmany. Lots to adjust too

Dresser really called Paniro out in his presser.

Basically said you’ve got to be a dawg in that situation, and he’s not sure Paniro has that in him.

Going to defend Paniro just a bit here. You almost never see 4 stall calls from neutral especially on the guy that got the only two TD's in regulation. The ref was clearly pandering to the crowd and UNI coaches on the last 2 point call as it was a scramble situation. Paniro did need to dive back in bounds instead of standing with his back to UNI and all is fine. As Dresser pointed out, it was a BS call, but Paniro put himself in that situation to let it happen, so that's on him.

I was a bit taken aback by how harsh Dresser was. PJ had been wrestling much more aggressive lately until yesterday. If I had to guess, PJ is the odd man out next year and transfers when Casey/Ech come back. It's too bad because he has so much talent.

Idk if you saw after the dual but Metcalf and Schwab walked up and shook hands. And Dresser and Schwab get a long. In the heat of the moment you defend your guys no matter what. I’m a huge Schwab guy and he was over the top but he was going to fight for his guys. There’s a lot of mutual respect between staffs but in the heat of the dual that how it can get sometimes. If that was carver the brands losers wouldn’t show that respect.

A few thoughts:

I know we had issues with the broadcast yesterday.

SDSU on Friday was about as good as it gets with a new arena with plenty of bandwidth and room on press row without fans being on top of you. I was by myself and don't think I've ever talked that much in my life. I wished that Nate would have been there because he's the best and we would have put on a great show that night with how that dual played out. Joe was taking a much-needed break, and if the 3 of us had been in Brookings, it would have been ridiculous when Herrera got that ride-out. I am so appreciative of Joe and Nate letting me be a 3rd wheel on these broadcasts. Andy Stubblefield was awesome stepping in and giving me a chance to breathe on Friday. Andy is the Oracle of ISU wrestling for a reason.

UNI was tough.

A record crowd, lots of media wanting to fight for their spot and fans literally 2' from us constantly screaming and causing problems with our equipment. Our engineers are in Joplin, Missouri and there's only so much they could do about the situation yesterday.

I know it wasn't a good broadcast, but it got to the point where Nate and I had to decide to either just log off, or keep talking and pray for a miracle from the technology gods.

As far as my broadcasting skills, you'll never confuse me for an ESPN announcer, but I'm "Clone to the Bone" when it comes to ISU wrestling and I'm going to be a homer on the call. I care too much about these kids to be objective. Coach Dresser has some really neat people stepping out on the mat. I just act like I'm sitting next to someone at their first wrestling meet and try talking to them about what is going on out there. But I'm not a professional and never claim to be.

Nate and I have a unique opportunity to be in the room for the referee's instructions to the team and Coach Dresser's pre-match talk to the team. It gives us some perspective on what to look for and things to talk about. It was very frustrating when the point of emphasis that was made in the locker room was control of the mat area with coaches running all over and that flew out the window right from the beginning.

On Friday, when Herrera stacks his guy for more than a 2-count and Titus is looking at who knows what, I'm going to call him out. Yesterday, when Schwab was allowed to do the complete opposite of what was just said to the team in the locker room, I'm going to call that referee out too.

To the people asking for a coaching change, c'mon get real. It was a perfect storm yesterday for UNI. Coach Dresser made the moves he had to make to give us a shot to steal one. It didn't happen, but I like our guys and I like our guys in Tulsa.

Brighter days are ahead, keep the faith.

Yea. @NEICyFan is usually fairly knowledgeable, so I’ll give him somewhat of a pass, but putting the behavior of our coaches and Schwab in the same universe is one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever seen on this forum.

I can appreciate the balance in this post, and the differing of opinions (even as over the top as this was). Our coaches get chirpy with the best of them, and it isn't a reaction, it's in their blood. They are vocal on the refs, engage with other coaches, run to the scorer's table, etc. Just because they don't jump around as much as Schwab and the Brands dorks doesn't mean they are any less passionate or excitable. Anyone sitting near the bench yesterday will tell you they aren't innocent, delicate flowers.

It happened, but fairly certain MJ thought he had released him. (Which he did) but Realbuto immediately dove back in and the ref never gave MJ his one. Kinda a bs way for MJ to still have "control"

But still within the rules. Simply breaking the hold isn't an escape.

Going to defend Paniro just a bit here.

I can't defend him at all. He should have been stalled out.

Dresser and Schwab also gave each other a hearty handshake. There's totally a respect there.

Yesterday sucked but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. They are going to beat us every once in a while.

Yep MJ wanted the release and Simma was trying to use up clock. The injury and that locked hands call changed that match. MJ will get him next time.

The dive backs after a release is something our guys are going to need to be ready for. Brilliant strategy by UNI.
