Made the trip 2 years ago, the town is pretty coolx. The people are laid back like Ames and the Pearl St. is like IA City's ped mall.
We stopped in Ft. Collins on the way out and hit up 3 micro brews, it was a blast.
We are die hard tailgaters and got out there 6 hours before the game and there was no one out there. ISU fans were slowly trickling in and made a good showing. 2 hours later CU's parking lot attendants showed up as did CU's fans.
The Buffalo running around the field is pretty awesome. The stadium is "meh."
I actually thought the night life was a blast and so did my buddies. A lot of Cyclone fans out there on Friday night before the game.

Have it penciled in. Gonna miss ya Ralphie....

Drive through the night, because the drive is brutal. Western Nebraska and Eastern Colorado have got to be some of the most boring scenery in the United States.

If you want to tailgate with Cyclone Fans (and some Buffs), go to the Millenium Harvest House Hotel. Stay there too if you really want to make it easy. It is the official alumni association tailgate and it is a good time. I can't recall the cost but it was easy to get food and beer. They have big TVs setup and music on. It is fun.

Did that last time. Was actually a really good time. We will be doing that again this fall!

Last year we just flew out at 6am from DSM, got a rental car, drove to Boulder in plenty of time for several hours of tailgating.

Best way. Train departs Osceola at 9:15 PM (other stops across Iowa and Omaha), party thru the night, arrives Denver approx. 9:00 AM. Get tranportation to Boulder (rental or limo) and stay at the Millenium (4-5 block walk to the stadium). Millenium puts on a tailgate before the game. Train leaves Denver daily at aprroximately 6:00 PM. Get a small sleeping compartment and your meals (breakfast on the way out, dinner on the way back) are included. Arrive back in Osceola about 9:00. Allows you to sleep across Nebraska both ways. Fares are cheaper the earlier you purchase. Going a day early is good if you can as the trains can be unpredictable. Nice night life in Boulder. Eastern range is a beautiful backdrop for the stadium.

The drive isn't that bad if you have someone to talk to and decent music. It's way better now that the SL is like 70-75. I have been doing it since I was a little kid.
Don't speed west of Ft. Morgan, I have been pulled over twice, last time was going 89

I would agree that the stretch from the Colorado boarder to Brush is pretty brutal. Don't drive through Greeley, unless you want to smell the awesome combination of Blood, Beats,***, and Death in the air........

Limit your stops and you can easily make it in 10 hours.

Hey guys,

Some of my friends and I were hoping to catch the very last ISU-CU game in Boulder next year. Has anybody ever driven out there? What should we expect? Google maps claims it's about 11 hours, how close is that?

Also, what's the tailgating like? Would we need to know someone? Is anybody else going out there that we could meet up with?

Any advice is really appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm going to be at the game. Ill prolly get arrested though because I plan to drink about a liter of jager and chant BIG 12 directly in the face of every sad Buffalo fan I see.

Just did this drive last week (Denver anyway).

Agree with most of the above. God awful boring drive. Good news is once you hit Nebraska, it's 75 the whole way.

We stopped over in North Platte - but I'd say 10-11 hours is about right. We left DSM around 6:30 and stopped in NP about 1, maybe another 5 into Denver. But that was with horrid weather from Lincoln to NP, and repeated stops for the wife.

Thanks again for all the help! We're planning leaving Ames Friday after class (2PMish) and driving out. We'll see how that plan changes.

Hopefully we'll see you there!

I took the trip out there twice in college hit this tailgate up both times it is definitely what you should do. The hotel has a big courtyard that they have it in both years I went it was all Cardinal and gold there.

Before the game. Not sure what time it starts. You can walk to the stadium from the hotel in about 15 minutes.

They should send you all a finder's fee. Just booked a room there. See you at the tailgate.
