It swear the popularity of golf seemed to peak like 9-10 years ago, and was declining a bit. Then when covid happened it seemed to take off again. The courses around the metro have been stupid busy. Along with the population increase, we can probably handle another course or two. What was the last new course to open around Des Moines? Copper Creek like 25 years ago?
Pre-covid was such a beautiful time to be a golfer.

I thought the city shutdown the idea of the golf course. Could be wrong though.

From source:
Albaugh is looking at building two 18-hole courses South of Ankeny Costco.

Plans are emerging for even more development near Ankeny's Costco.

The city's Plan and Zoning Commission voted Tuesday to recommend a mixed-use neighborhood development plan south of Northeast 36th Street by Costco and the interstate exit. The plan calls for 10 lots of commercial development and two lots for multi-family housing in a 60-acre area east of Interstate 35.

The plan is the latest proposal for future development as officials eye turning the Spectrum Drive area into a new neighborhood and regional shopping destination. The City Council would vote on the neighborhood plan at a later date, while further details about site plans, construction and tenants are to be announced.

Plans do include extending Spectrum Drive and Threshold Drive off 36th Street. At least three roundabouts will help manage traffic to planned future restaurants.

The property is owned by DRA Properties, according to Polk County records, the prominent local development firm founded by Dennis Albaugh that developed Ankeny's Prairie Trail.
