I stopped using Twitter several years ago and have been monitoring alternatives. In recent weeks, Bluesky has seen another surge in popularity. It was originally a project within Twitter, but was spun off years ago and is its own thing now. Feels similar to Twitter w/ some improvements. Earlier this year it became open to everyone without invite codes. Signing up is very quick and you are up and rolling with Bluesky's servers. (You can also host yourself.)

IMO this is the tipping point, because I'm seeing a bunch of sports figures and news orgs are moving there and/or have started posting regularly. I think sports was something it was missing before.

Remember! Just like Twitter, you control your experience. Keep it nice by only following sane people and viewing the chronological feed. Many accounts are sharing Starter Packs, which are lists of people that they recommend and you can either follow individuals or the entire pack at once. Since this is CF, some sports examples I'm seeing over there:

@shutdownfullcast.bsky.social (Spencer Hall, etc. - writers linked in bio)
@sickoscommittee.bsky.social
@artbutmakeitsports.bsky.social
@jonbois.bsky.social

@rodger.bsky.social
@mattbrown.bsky.social
@espnbillc.bsky.social

I also joined yesterday - the first social media I've been on in years:

Hopefully this thread can be a spot for others to share sports and educational accounts to follow on Bluesky.

Can someone with an account do a quick check and see how many ISU MBB players are on Bluesky? I feel like that's a good litmus test.

The people posting laughing emojis are laughing because you're not posting about Truth Social
