I dont plan to leave X quite yet, but I will say I hate the recent changes to it, particularly the excessive amount of ads that I can no longer block like I used to be able to. And now those ads take up almost the entire screen, and are annoying/inappropriate content.
Brave browser. The only ads I see are the occasional sponsored post.

I have my X catered to my likes/wants and avoid (mostly) all the other sh*t on there.

If you can do that, it's still a great app.
Agreed. And it's remarkably easy to get it curated.

Not to get accusatory of anyone here, but I think the only people who have an issue with the politics on there are the folks who can't help but interact with every political thing they see. The algorithm figures out pretty quickly what you'll respond to and what you won't respond to, and its entire goal is to get you to click more. If you can fight the urge to voice your political opinion on there for a day it becomes a very pleasant place to enjoy solid sports talk/banter/information.

If folks are boycotting it strictly because of Elon, that's fine and I don't fault you at all for it, but I personally am not interested in moving to what is (currently) a far inferior experience just to try and send a message.

One of the best decisions i made was dropping facebook and twitter years ago. Instant increase in happiness.

Still sticking with CF but that time will come too . . .

Twitter is crazy strangers saying ****** up and ignorant stuff

Facebook is crazy people you know saying ****** up and ignorant stuff.

About 5 years off FB. I have Twitter but it is so bad now. Just awful.

Social media has not been a net positive for the world.

CF and IE all you need. X always going to be there seems like too much work to me to start over for pretty much the same thing. People don't post bluesky or threads things here, maybe I'll join once that starts.
Internet Explorer?

I don't understand this, do you scroll the "For you" feed? I don't get any junk in my "following" feed and rarely come off of that unless I'm bored.

It is inescapable. If someone I follow quotes some ass then I see it. If someone comments on a tweet from someone I follow I read it.

I think Threads is the way to go. I deleted Twitter from my home screen finally but still have it in the background to view posts from here. Threads has the built in link over to Instagram and Facebook which is a major advantage. Bluesky seemed overly complicated when it first started. Maybe that is fixed as well with it actually being open to everyone.

I'm too old for another SM. I have a 14 year old facebook account to share photos with family and have fun in some whiskey and fitness private groups. I have a 10 year old twitter account that is actually tuned in very well, with interesting conversations from people all over the world with shared interest. I don't have much issue with content appearing there that I don't want.

I advocate for the mute function. If someone I follow, who otherwise posts strictly Cyclone related content, gets political just a couple times I unfollow and mute them. Works wonders. Even my "For You" feed is very enjoyable when I'm not looking at it right around a major political event like an election.

Again, it's not difficult to eliminate the overwhelming majority of toxicity from either feed on Twitter.

Edited to add: this was written in response to a now-deleted post.

Yeah, I'm gonna guess you and I use the app very differently. It would never even cross my mind to go on there, find a company's page, and complain to them through that channel. There probably isn't much hope for your Twitter experience to be what you claim to want it to be.

The really small subs of reddit are great. The large ones are complete trash that are filled with group think/circle jerk. I'm not even talking political, I'm talking everything. Cars, cities, travel, food, etc. I swear the demographics must be 75% white dudes between the age of 16-22.
There is one called FluentInFinance that is supposed to be great talk about finance, but its a mess. Constantly have to block and hide folks. I do like Reddit, its a great source for how tos and troubleshooting various aspects of my day, but it can ramp to cesspool rather quickly at times.

Did I get one deleted?

Do we get a heads up when something is deleted here? The Panera Mafia running CF??

Moderation vs. curation, two sides of the same coin. Don't like social media? Nobody's forcing you to participate. No need to crap on others who have interests or communities outside of ISU.

Where did I crap on anybody? I said you won’t miss it. You won’t, and your mental health will likely improve.
