This can only benfit Tulane. How much can a coach learn by scrimmaging Tulane? What if someone gets hurt? I mean I can see doing it if u have a bunch of new players and want to kinda gage where u are at...but we don't.
Someone could get hurt against Minnesota, too. So what? It's extra time that you get guys on the court against people that aren't their teammates. It's "game-like" time, which is hard to come by. You can scrimmage your own guys all day long, but doing against other people is where you are going to get a better picture of where your team is at.

I kinda miss having two exhibition games. I know a secret scrimmage is more beneficial but for selfish reasons I'd rather watch them play.

What's even more strange and nobody has mentioned it. Tulane is going to fly up from New Orleans, Louisiana to Ames, Iowa for a scrimmage game?? Wow! These type of games normally pit regional teams. The money spent for traveling is absurd for a game that doesn't count statistically.

is it at sukup or hilton? my guess is sukup. Is anyone else happy to have a coach with ties outside the midwest? I know the midwest is our bread and butter but we have a solid group of assistance coaches with plenty of experience in the region

Not going to lie that is a little disappointing, can't imagine playing Tulane will be that beneficial.

We did lose to a Tulane(ish) equal - UAB, to end our season. Gotta respect the non P5 schools.

Don't worry, I have it from a source that we will still be playing Minnesota as part of a double secret scrimmage.

I miss the days we played teams like "global sports".

Maybe they should play against Grinnell or other small schools in Iowa. That's what KU does. I think they rotate Washburn, Emporia, Pitt State, and Fort Hays.

Well, I guess you can't force Minnesota to show up for a scrimmage, even if it's kind of a **** move on their part (assuming there was some sort of handshake deal in place). Glad they were able to at least get Tulane to come for a scrimmage, although I would imagine that's not a real challenging scrimmage opponent. In a perfect world, if you can't get a decent high-major or upper-tier mid-major for a scrimmage, I'd almost rather just let the fans have another chance to see the team, but it seems pretty clear this was out of ISU's hands.

If they decided to do that, they could also just play whichever of Drake or UNI they aren't playing for the year. I'm not sure what the main purpose is though, whether you want someone who will test you or not.

I see your point because we have a pretty veteran team, but there are still some young guys and these kids like to compete. I am sure they would rather be scrimmaging Tulane than scrimmaging each other for the umpteenth day in a row. Those preseason practices get to be grueling and I imagine they are chomping at the bit to play other competition.

Plus, we aren't deep. For example, I doubt Jameel will get better playing against Brady Ernst (no offense to the Freshman) while he'll probably get more of a challenge playing against Tulane's frontcourt in a true game situation.
