....Tulane in Ames on Oct. 31.

Kind of random, right?

Here's the scoop: Iowa State was supposed to play Minnesota. The Gophers backed out when Fred Hoiberg left for the NBA.

Tulane's head coach, Ed Conroy, is a Davenport native so there's the connection.

Coach Prohm was at Tulane as an assistant for a year.

What am I missing? Why would they back out of a "secret" scrimmage just because the head coach is different?

Sounds like the Goofers were looking for an excuse to not get drilled again before the season even starts.

Because no one is supposed to know that they exist or know the stats, and it's behind closed doors. Everyone knows they exist as of late, and usually the stats leak out.

I don't believe that no one is supposed to know they exist. The secret part is what happens during the game.

This can only benfit Tulane. How much can a coach learn by scrimmaging Tulane? What if someone gets hurt? I mean I can see doing it if u have a bunch of new players and want to kinda gage where u are at...but we don't.

Why wouldn't Minnesota want a stiff test up front?

The other option is a second exhibiton game against Southeast St. Louis Tech A&M Community College.

I don't think ISU had another option from being handcuffed by Minnesota. Prohm knows his guys are going to get sick of seeing each other in practice for a month and you can learn a lot from playing another team.

Would have liked a better team but oh well. Like someone said its better than an exhibition against a D2 or something.
