Don't worry. If FSU and Clemson join the Big 12, ISU will eventually be playing it too...

Sorry for all the baseball haters out there...baseball is the big-time NCAA men's spring sport. Any team that wants to be part of a big-time conference will eventually play the big-time sports. It's inevitable.

Why bring back baseball when we have stadium improvements that are a #1 priority. If anything cut more of those worthless sports out.

If you want baseball here there are two solutions:
1) get 4-5 more northern climate teams in the bigxii
2) move Isu 400 + miles south.

I am not going to figure those odds out.

Yeah, I know. It would just be nice when all the other schools play it.

Baseball is a dying sport in this country. You will never get enough support from Iowans to bring that back. Look at the support that Iowa's team gets. Not only are you throwing away money to that program, you also must add another women's sport.

I think this perspective definitely makes sense, even though I agree with others that it's unlikely to ever catch fire like womens hoops and wrestling in Iowa as long as it's being played in typically cold springs.

The weather during college baseball season is just not ideal for Big Ten region schools, but JBH has a point that some of it is about looking and feeling big time.

I wonder now that we'd have so many warmer climate schools, if ISU/KU/KSU/WVU baseball could be unbalanced with home games toward the end the year. It's not like football where "we want them in the snow". The visitor and the home team would rather be playing in warm weather than a long Iowa winter. I'm pretty ignorant on college baseball outside of CWS. Even if they previously tilted the schedule, before you just had OU/OSU as slightly warmer destinations, now you'd have 6-7 very warm locations, 3-4 moderate climates and just 4 colder climates.

So? Were FSU and Clemson part of the Big 12 when that was written? Given the situation today, that is certainly an appropriate reply.

But things change. Ten years ago, it was a very long shot that ISU would be in a conference with West Virginia, and possibly Florida State and Clemson.

"Florida State and Clemson coaches have been told a possible move to the Big 12 was under way, and to be ready for this on the road recruiting."

Wow.

Because who doesn't want to spend a beautiful mid February day in Ames sitting out at the ball park in -15 windchill watching opening day of college baseball season.

The issue for ISU is that the conference footprint is changing regarding the importance of college baseball in the footprint. The addition of FSU and Clemson would change that even further.

Not true. We could add baseball and still comply with Title 9.

It's entirely possible that we could be looking at $10 million more in annual revenue since Pollard wrote that email too. You'll also notice in that email that Minnesota is committing big $$ to their baseball program. Last I checked, Minnesota doesn't exactly have the same climate at Texas, Florida, etc.

How? It was my understanding that we were not complying with title 9 now, but rather working to comply with it. If we added a men's sport then we would no longer be working to comply. Unless you are suggesting having a non-scholarship baseball team.
