it seems as though the gold ol boys in TX are trying to take the keys back from OU. Powerplay...go ahead OU and head west, but no TX teams will follow, and you need TX if you want to recruit in its state.

TX can hold the XII together, albeit, with less glitz, but the reps in TX don't like being dictated to it appears...

The more i think about it the more i think the latest from Chip is garbage.

Theyre not going to stop texas from going when it could cause texas to be without a spot in the PAC if the big 12 collapses. Its not like they can stop OU from doing what it wants here, and it sounds from other reports like TX\TTU could be replaced with KU\MU.

Plus, the 3 B12 state schools come out fine in this, and TAMU fans would riot if the legislature killed their SEC jump at the last second. No political payoff and a lot of political risk by stopping it.

KU/MU may be an option, or simply a bluff. Scott doesn't want KU/MU he wants the state of TX for negotiating rights for their footprint. If the indication that KU/MU is in play, it's only to keep the pressure on TX.

What if UT is simply trying to dilute the Big 12 of their strongest competitors? I can see a scenerio where they stay and raid the MWC and keep the league in tact with the auomatic BCS bid going to them on an almost annual basis( at least in their minds).

Texas A&M will be hearing from legislators that Aggies' departure from the B12 no longer has their blessing, sources say.

It may not have started out that way, but could end up being that way. OU got all bent when the likely additions were BYU/AF/TCU and decided that wasn't good enough for them and now changed the end-game by flexing their muscle on Friday. Calculated to take the power and drive. TX can now wear the white hat and be the savior for the remaining teams and completely control the landscape...

The few (likely longhorn and baylor alum) legislators that raise a stink will be hearing from Texas A&M to tell them where they can stick their complaints.

A&M is gone.

A&M is out effective June 30 2012

Baylor is in its death shakes

OU will do the dirty work so Texas can move on.

Boomer, don't take this personal because I like what you bring to the board and you seem like a great guy, but I wish OU and Texas nothing but the worst if you leave the Big 12.

This conference would be viable if OU and Texas are in it. They are choosing to leave a conference that has the potential to screw over universities that they have a had a athletic and academic relationship with for a long time, especially your Sooners.

Again, I'm not shooting the messenger but I hope both of you never sniff a BCS bowl again.

I dont see why the texas legislature would (or should) particularly care about the big 12 breaking up if the 3 texas public schools in the big 12 find good landing spots in the SEC and PAC

My guess is because of the fact there will no longer be a major sports conference headquartered in the State of Texas, and I doubt you will see any conference championships being held in Texas.

Don't dismiss good ol fashioned TX politics, and now corporate interests...amazing how those can change the complexion of communications. It would seem that corporate interests in TX don't see a timezone 2 hours away to be in their best interests...

What if:

Texas politics freezes everything in that state.

Meanwhile OU and Okie State roll out to the Pac with KU and Mizzou.

So now we have UT, A&M, Baylor, Tech, K-State, and us.

Something tells me that the conference would get back to 10 using largely Texas schools. Houston, SMU, maybe TCU. Toss in maybe BYU for football only or Air Force as well.

What does that mean for us? Would that be better than the Big East?

Baylor
BYU (football only)
Houston
Iowa State
Kansas State
TCU
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
SMU

As long as we stay AQ and make good money, I could get behind this. Won't happen though

I still don't buy OU doing anything without Texas. OU is one of the finest college football programs around but they need Texas much more than Texas needs OU.

Why is KU/Mizzou an option to go to the PAC but when Big East scenarios are discussed KU and K state are said to be a package deal with no way to be separated?
