The latest from orangebloods, don't know if anyone posted it.

Orangebloods.com - Sources: Texas being told to slow things down

When I first read the Oklahoma pres comments I got the impression that they were possibly playing a game of political poker to try to force an 11th hour deal to keep a& m around. . . N now it looks like the legislature maybe stepping in with the latest revelations. . . Go figure.

Don't dismiss good ol fashioned TX politics, and now corporate interests...amazing how those can change the complexion of communications. It would seem that corporate interests in TX don't see a timezone 2 hours away to be in their best interests...

I love how some small-town two-bit Texas STATE legislator thinks they are some big powerful entity. They need to keep their paws out of the conference realignment crap.

Why the h e double l would the Pac want KU and Miz? Missouri is a pro sports state and who cares about Kansas football? This is about money; that option is worthless.

Does anyone have the link to the photo of Blythe catching the td at ATM? I think someone posted in this thread, but good grief I am not going through 6000+ posts to find it.

They are very powerful. See the bigxii formation for instance. And they may be our last best hope.

I think your characterization of the TX politician is a bit off...throw in corporate interests and it's further off.

Big oil owns TX, legislators in TX have the interests of their lobby at heart...that network is a bit different than the left coast...

Why should state legislators keep their paws out of it? Since these are state-funded universities for the most part, if conference realignment is going to negatively impact their constituents, the legislators ought to be involved working for what is best for the state. If the best thing is going to the SEC/Pac-12 then fine. If the best thing is staying in the Big 12, then the legislators need to be fighting for that to happen.

The few (likely longhorn and baylor alum) legislators that raise a stink will be hearing from Texas A&M to tell them where they can stick their complaints.

A&M is gone.

Yeah...I have a pretty hard time believing that elected representatives are going to stick their neck out to try and kill TAMU to the SEC...that screams political suicide. Don't see that happening at all.

I could see the politicians pressuring UT into staying though, which could effectively save the Big XII (for a second time), but TAMU is long gone.

KU & K State are not a package deal. KU' chancellor said as much this past week. Sure in a perfect scenario they would like to remain together but if one is offered a AQ position without the other they will be free to go.

The legislature isn't to step in and stop lucrative deals for 3 public schhols for the sake of 1 private school

Without the 2 bit legislators Baylor would have never been included in the Big 12.

Therein lies the problem...it may not be as lucrative. It's already been discussed that A&M may not make as much in their move. TX already exceeds what they could make in a PAC deal. Tech would be the only real benefactor in the equation. The fact that TAMU and TX were already getting a larger portion of the cash means the state of TX might be giving up more than they're gaining...

I don't even want to be in the Big 12 anymore. Two years in a row of this crap - the conference is completely dysfunctional. I hope Geoffroy and Pollard are working on an exit strategy, and if they get a good offer, I hope they bolt.

Exactly. There is no proof that the deals garnered by bailing for the SEC/Pac-12 would be more lucrative then those obtained by maintaining a strong Big12, and no one (other than the Baylor study) has provided any information on the economic impact on the state of Texas of disbanding the Big 12. I hope the legislators do step in and force both UT and A&M to provide economic impact studies of what they planning to do, and show proof that bailing for the SEC/Pac-12 are better for the student-athletes and the state.

Then I hope we have 30 mil laying around to pay the exit fee.
