Also Jeffrey Wright is so underrated as an actor. Love that he’s on this.
You can tell the first season focused on Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey but they likely knew once Pedro was out they needed some more recognizable faces so they brought in Jeffrey Wright, Catherine O'Hara, Young Mazino, etc.

Same. Wife and I just started the binge of Season 2 tonight and once we accepted Joel was dead, we both agreed there was no interest in watching Bella Ramsey and her poor acting the remainder of this series. On to something else.
I read these bizarre takes on Bella's acting in lots of places, usually from incels who don't like that they got cast in the role over someone they wanted to fantasize about. To each their own, but I find Bella's acting remarkable, in the best way.

I thought she did a great job in the first season capturing Ellie's spirit.

My potential concern was always the age jump in season 2 and how much more grizzled Ellie gets as she goes down this path. Jury still out there as we havent had Ellie going solo yet which is where things get darker and where Bella will have to prove herself.

The way they wrote Ellie's reaction to Dina's pregnancy was also dramatically different, and I don't know that I love that as I think that moment was important to the broader theme, but thats a writing decision, not an acting criticism

I was/am ok with Bella. But after seeing Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and learning that she had auditioned for the Ellie role, I would have preferred her to Bella. She’s a 10x better actress imo.

I had to go back to game plot summaries to check this, but this season has diverted quite a bit from the Part 2 plot in some areas. The big picture is still largely the same, the but details of how it comes together have been changed a chunk.

Definitely more engaging in this environment.

Yeah, my thing with Dina\Ellie is that Dina kind of represents Ellie's connection to her humanity as she goes down this revenge path. And she loses everything. Her singlemindedness towards revenge leading her to respond to the news ("I didn't want to be a burden", "Well you're a burden now aren't you") is a sign of the dark path she's on.

I sticking with it just to see if humanity wins over the fungus. I don’t know the game so I have no idea if there is a resolution to it or not. Hoping so.

I’m surprised at the numbers of zombies the fungus still has. I’d imagine the vast majority of zombies came during the first 5 years. Do they ever die from age? I mean, are there still zombies running around who were in the initial wave 20 years ago? With no food, you’d think their bodies would deteriorate and rot.

Worst episode so far? Hate the “just in time rescue”. And why would they leave their map anyway? Don’t they need it?

And why are you still hiding out in the building across the street from the underground horde? And why turns the lights on when you know there are warring factions there? And why are you smart enough to triangulate positions but dumb enough to be talking out loud after seeing recently killed bodies?

And why doesn’t the WLF move their hospital to another somewhere else in Seattle? It’s Seattle so they certainly works have others. I mean, you know it’s airborne, which means it is evolving, but you’re cool with slightly ajar elevator doors?

Getting dumb.

I would hardly say worst. In fact I thought this episode was a big step up from last week's, and finally started showing us the ice cold Ellie that existed in TLOU pt 2.

Also.. the hospital and theater are kind of key locations in the game. Though in the game spores are a thing from the start. Regardless, I wouldn't guarantee there's another hospital. Seattle got bombed out and these hospitals were basically ground zero for the infection, and this one was no exception.

I think those concerns have been confirmed for me over the last couple episodes. I think Dina’s actress is excellent and I think that’s really highlighting it for me.

Still loving the show though, they are nailing the big scenes.

I wouldn’t say it’s getting dumb, but I agree there was a lot of ridiculousness last night.

The Deus Ex Machina with Jesse saving them was stupid (would one person even be able to save them in that situation? They were surrounded by multiple infected).

Also chasing Nora as she’s yelling “intruder!”
through a hospital teeming with WLF soldiers and getting through unscathed was ridiculous too.

Mixed bag for me. The basement was really well done, what a terrible place. Cold hearted Ellie. Some of the other criticisms I felt as well so...

Where's the horse???

And why did Nora run to a place where she was cornered? She has to know the layout of the building.

I mean, I get it. They needed a way to get Ellie into the basement after they previously introduced the airborne spores. But it isn’t great writing.

I was disappointed in the noose scene. It seemed really out of place, and I guess they are going in a different direction from the video game.

Yeah that was an odd addition

Im kind of in a weird place with this show.

It's good in some ways and better towards the end of the season, but they cut so much from this first act, while simultaneously saying theyll need season 3 and 4 to finish and season 3 will likely be longer. Makes no sense to me when we cruised through Seattle in like 3 episodes. Less effect when we don't see Ellie really going through it like she did in the game (the scene with Dina washing her wounds really hits a lot less when she's barely been through much comparatively)

I don't mind changes where they make sense in the change from a game to a show, but I worry the second act won't be as effective with all they removed from the first
