The list of coaches that would want the Iowa job is long. And there will be quality coaches on that list. Iowa fans do want to win in basketball...they just don't want to win with Fran anymore. They have hired 3 straight zeros in the eyes of their fans...and those fans are right! I hate Iowa so I enjoy their MBB program being mocked...but a basketball program can be turned around quickly. All it takes is the right coach...and their AD will have plenty of solid candidates who will want that gig...but will she pick the correct one? (this is all based on this being Fran's final season, which I am not convinced it is)
Idk… I think it’s less desirable than at least half the big 10 jobs. Is it even a top 10 Big 10 job? It’s been 2 generations since they have had any sustained success. Every recruit they talk to only knows them as a mid to bottom program.

The only thing they have going for themselves is the privilege of being grandfathered into the big 10.

I've shared this before, but my wife graduated from Iowa and cannot stand most Iowa fans. She thinks they are the most entitled and obnoxious people ever. Oh, she can tolerate the Iowa grads but the Tavern Hoks are the worst.

A guy from my high school who works for IDOT always post anti-ISU stuff on Facebook. All-the-time. Posts pictures of JTS when he is in town calling it a dump, etc. Yeah, he went to Wyoming Tech.

My brother, a farmer, is all Iowa. The reason? Because Iowa has ANF stickers on their helmets. That's it. Runs ISU down all the time. He went to NICC.
Yep. There are good fans and bad fans for all teams. Heck, there are lots of Iowa State fans that are horrible, but the amount of ******* Iowa fans is quite large. I go to game watches quite often and it's unreal how absymal they are. On a Saturday I'd watch an Iowa football game with the bar being mostly Iowa fans, and I wouldn't openly root against Iowa because I'm not going to do that, but when Iowa State came on, all of those Iowa fans literally cheering and hooting and hollering for West Virginia or Utah.

Also, went to a watch party at a bar for the WBB national title game and it was obviously packed with Hawk fans. A guy wearing a red Chiefs sweatshirt walked in and was instantly cussed at, booed, and told he needed to get out and he wasn't welcome. All because he was wearing red, albeit a different shade than South Carolina wears. I knew of or have seen a lot of those Iowa fans at the bar before and almost NONE of them went there lol. It's incredible.

If he has skill to be ranked that high I’m not worried about a guys weight. If he was coming to Iowa state I don’t care what he weighs
If he is a 6-6 165 point guard, great but a guy that is supposed to be a 3? Hell, I ran cross country in high school at 6-0 165 and I was too skinny.

Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue, Oregon, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Maryland, UCLA and Ohio State are all better jobs. No given order above but I'd put Iowa in at 11th, with USC, PSU, Northwestern, Rutgers, Nebraska, Minnesota and Washington behind them.

I mean it's pretty low on the list of concerns, sure, but I can't imagine a guy weighing 165 (at 6'6!) being able to withstand the physicality of the Big 12.
It seems iffy, but then again there was a guy who played for ISU who was 6-5 175 and he did okay...

but again, he was a point/shooting guard, not a 3.

I don't even think Iowa fans are going to be happy when they get that commitment announcement today.

Steve Forbes would make more sense, however, he hasn't done anything at Wake in his previous 4 seasons. I know they're having a fine year so far, but I'll credit that partially to how bad the ACC is. The next two games for them will be a good indicator.

But I also don't think Iowa is going to be able to get a guy from a P6 conference that's currently succeeding. Iowa is not a school that's going to be able to pull someone away. If I had to put money on it right now, I think McCollum will be the next coach for Iowa. Will it be next season? We'll have to wait and see on that. If Iowa tanks and only wins a couple more, I think they pull the trigger. If Iowa is on the bubble either way, I do not think they fire Fran and I do not think he's walking away from the job.
He's won a goof fair of games there and should of went to tourney early in tenure when they were like 23-8 and 13-7 in conference. Wake's not the job it used to be. You're #4 in your own state. If acc went way of pac they're likely to be wazzu or oregon State. I mostly agree with Power 6 comment but he might be exception. Not too rich of contract and seems to be a big Hawkeye fan. Up until he took wake forrest job he tweeted about Iowa very openly even while at another job and school

I think he's a fine coach and that year you're referring to you're correct, they should've made it but VaTech won the conference tournament somehow and took their bid. Even so, the ACC has not been that good since he's been there. Incredibly top heavy.

Definitely one to keep an eye on. He's also likely to make the NCAA tournament this year barring a collapse. Think Wake will pony up to keep him? No clue I don't have any knowledge on them.

I'm old enough to remember how ecstatic they were when they hired Steve Alford. Still think that would have worked if Steve wasn't such an ******* off the court but that kind of doomed him and he still hasn't learned that that part matters 4 jobs later.

Looks like they got the kid. I don't care what anyone says. That is a good player. Was being recruited by a bunch of good teams like Michigan State. Not sure if they went all in with all of their NIL for one player or what the deal is. No way the kid that highly ranked choses Iowa and the dumpster fire that they are right now. His weight would not concern me one bit if we got him.

Agreed. Not saying he's the same player by any means but Ja Morant was 140 pounds coming out of high school. It's not the same physical game anymore, skill wins out.

See my post where I pointed out that Haliburton was listed at ISU as a 6-5 175 guard and he turned out okay.

I guess a lot of it could depend on how they plan to use him as a 3, if they do at all. If they want him to be another guard it is a good fit. If they are looking for him to be more of a forward it might be a little tougher. Knowing Fran he will probably try to make him his point guard since he can never seem to recruit a decent one.

They haven't recruited one, and he loves Harding so they'll be recruiting yet again another PG for a backup role. Thelwell should be starting and I don't think that's exactly a hot take.

I've seen this take hundreds of times, and it's stupid every time. I've been a Cyclone fan since 1980, but didn't attend ISU. Have I been a fake fan for 45 *ucking years?

My generation of Iowans migrated towards Iowa because they became successful while ISU was a dumpster fire. The butthurtedness is getting really old.
Winner winner chicken Dinner

Find it interesting that the dip$hits that keep talking this point are not smart enough to realized anybody can be a fan of the school they attended but in order to get the people who never attended said school to become a fan the team has to be successful. I hope ISU starts to get these band wagon fans because that means we're more successful than the skycarp from EIU.

IQ points match shoe size for the idiots that keep making this supposed bashing of band wagon fans that never attended the school they root for... Blah blah blah.

I would say its between 8 and 10 or so in terms of jobs in that league. Schools ahead of it, both Michigan schools, Illinois, Oregon, UCLA, Wisconsin, Ohio St. Purdue, after that its a matter of where you want to be. Hard to say schools like Washington, USC, NW, Minn., Nebraska, and Penn St. are better, Maryland has done nothing for years nor has Rutgers. Look at the history with Mad Fran, in 14 years, he has made the NCAA tournament 7 times, so every other year. Has been ranked in 8 of those years and finished ranked in 4 of them. His problems is never getting past the first weekend and only winning one conference tournament during that time. The guy is not a horrible coach, they score points, but, he is like a Dak in football, looks good at times, but in the end, never gets you where you want to go, and if he gets there, he pees down his leg.

If you're an Iowa State fan you are not a band wagon. The reality is that Iowa State hasn't exactly been relevant and just lately has become more nationally talked about. Being good in the two main sports helps that. And for me it's not really about just sports. There are tons of Hawkeye fans out there who make the University of Iowa as a whole, Iowa City, etc, as "their school" "their college town". I'm sorry, but it's not. You root for that school's team but I don't believe you have that affiliation. And then to talk **** about another university, not just athletics, is ridiculous in my eyes.
