Idea: Take betting events off of the Recent Threads page

Just throwin' this out there...

It seems that the Recent Threads page that comes up when opening Cyclonefanatic.com sometimes gets overwhelmed by betting events. A few minutes ago, 6 of the 10 threads listed were betting events. These threads don't get many hits, but push other stuff off the Recent Threads page.

Perhaps betting events could be left off the Recent Threads page, like the Politics forum was. I'm sure the gambling-aholics are checking the betting forum anyway.

Thumbs up to that idea. I'd really like betting events to be kept in the Betting forums. Like you said, those who bet are checking that forum anyway, and the events shove the rest of the threads off the front page.

I'd agree but they're also often used as game threads for various events. For me it's nice to see right away what's being discussed.

Sometimes that's the case, but right now on the betting page, 16 of the first 20 threads have less than 5 posts in them.

I'm part of the problem. Beings that I work for an NCAA school, I can't post betting threads during the day. When I do Baseball games, I have a short period of time to get them posted onto the forums when I get home before they start. If I were able to post during the day, I wouldn't have to post so many in a short period of time.

It's not to blame anyone because everyones contribution counts. But I am with the original post, I like to see recent Cyclone related posts that don't include betting or gaming.

Click on the betting forum section, then click on forum tools (on the right, 2nd level of menu buttons). Under that, click on mark this forum read or something like that.

Taking the betting events off the Recent threads page is a good idea.

I'd also like to be able to take the "Off Topic" threads off there. Pretty much daily, it's just linked articles from Yahoo or CNN etc that I'll read when I visit that site right after I read what everyone is talking about regarding the Cyclones.

I'm still a fan of the feature talked about a while back...users being able to select the forum sections that show up in the Recent Threads (home page).

If people don't post on them they will go away shortly anyway, if they are popular they will stay up. I see no reason to take them down...

I agree, they are recent threads. If someone want's to be specific, they can click each forum they want individually.

That's my thought as well. A lot of times I find out what the hot game of the night is because I see a thread showing up a lot and I get to read what is going on or turn the game on.

I don't have a problem with it, I just think the threads available to discuss this summer have been, well...offseason stuff that makes you want the first kick to start immediately.

This idea is the winner IMO. I would love to be able to pick and choose, like a good Chinese Buffet.

Here is an idea......
Since there are so many threads, probably hundreds a week, the recent threads (homepage) lists only replies to the top 10 most recent replies. I feel like I miss out on some very good threads and discussions, simply because they are pushed out by the latest betting board (you need help if you are gambling on European soccer).

How about on the homepage, list the recent threads by category. For example, list the 10 most recent threads for basketball. List the 10 most recent for football, the 10 most recent for off-topic, etc., but list them all on the homepage. You might have to condense some of the forums a bit, (currently there are 22, maybe condense down to about 12, politics could go into off-topic, betting board could merge with gaming, etc.) but it could easily work. That way you can go to the last 10 threads of what you want to read about (I love to read MBB threads), and not have to try and find the thread because it has been replaced by the days latest Cubs score.

I personally like them there, of course I liked the politics there too. If enough people hate it I won't complain if it goes. It will just make me bet less.

What if we made the betting events something that you couldn't post on? Then you wouldn't have so many threads with games that you don't care about, and if somebody wanted to discuss a game they could start a thread on it. Just a thought...

I like the idea of removing the betting events from the front page. I don't participate in the betting (don't see the point of betting fake money) so it can get irritating when the whole recent threads list is bombarded with betting events.

Then why aren't political and gaming threads included? They're recent, too.
