I have the Coleman Fire and Ice. An older version of the Coleman everyone is talking about. Absolutely love the think. Did get rid of the bottom cooler part and just have the thing sitting on my tailgate. The griddle top works perfect for people wanting breakfast on the early games.

We have been looking to get something new... Does that workout ok on the tailgate to sit it on there? Doesn't get too hot? This is one I am hoping to get soon...

This is a less expensive option, which it looks like you're going for. I've had this grill for a couple seasons and have had good success with it. The one thing it doesn't do, which I wish it did, is have a griddle option breakfast, etc.

Charmglow Stainless Steel LP Gas Tab - 8200002 at The Home Depot

I saw this at Home Depot over lunch and thought it looked like a pretty good option. I'm glad you posted about it and seem to like it. The lack of a griddle option is kind of holding me back too, but maybe I'll look at measurements and see if I could get the Coleman griddle to work on it...

last year i used an old frying pan in place of an actual griddle attachment to make breakfast burritos, i'm sure there's some inefficiency in heat transfer but it worked good enough.

I have been interested in them too...

two things that have been holding me back:

1) can you drive with it like that (lp inside of course)
2) can you open the tailgate while it is on?

1) it locks right behind the vehicle for travel
2) yes it folds out to the side.

I have the Weber Q-120, which is the small Q grill with the sidetables that fold out when cooking. Love it. I have the stand. This uses the small disposable gas torch bottles. Nice not taking a big tank, but have the tank and adapter for home use. I also bought the rolling duffle. Everything packs in the duffle bag. The Q has a disposable drip pan in the bottom that you can just throw away. And this size can cook a bunch of food. It is Weber quality. And one thing I like about it is that the food actually tastes like it came off of a grill. I have actually used it to cook breakfast stuff on it also. Just took a teflon skillet and threw it on the grill like it was a stove burner. Closed the lid and cooked bacon and eggs. Bought it online. It wasn't cheap, but I really like Weber products. No reason it shouldn't last for years. I paid something like $129 for the grill and $39 for the stand. The rolling duffel was something like $30. And I bought the adapter for 20 lb. cylinders which was something like $12-15. I have seen a lot of Coleman Road Trip ones and they look like they would be great for burgers and stuff. I have actually cooked a pork loin in my Weber, don't know how the Coleman is for that.

I agree the Weber Q is the best for tailgating, there are two sizes available the smaller Weber Q works well for most people, the larger is naturally great for larger groups make sure you buy the stand for these grills but they both will work well on a folding table.

We've got the Q as well, it works very well

Has anyone ever tried to convert a Charcoal grill to gas? I found a really cheap charcoal grill that hooks up to the trailer hitch and wondered how hard it would be to convert to gas... I know they have all the parts at the harware store...

It is that easy... holes for the parts... holes to screw the parts to the grill.

amazingly easy.

This has served many meals in the last 4 years. I love this thing

That looks amazing close to mine. But I don't like using the bottom cooler unless I use it for utensils. Plus one of my side trays broke. The level broke off, and also the locking lid part broke off.

After 4 years though... Works like a charm.

I've had a Coleman Tailgate grill for 7 years or so....the best!!! I've bought more expensive grills for the home and they don't match up. And yes, it does take a beating, but seems roll with it. I also have the carrying case with wheels, that helps out alot.

FYI, the Coleman grill can only be used with the top UP while cooking. Don't know whether you like to smoke your grilling foods or not. One of the reasons I went with the Weber Q.

I have a Weber Baby-Q and I really like it. We don't have a stand or anything because we bring a folding table to put things on, such as beer pong cups. I've been really pleased with it so far as it heats up quickly, cooks the stuff evenly, and doesn't use a whole lot of propane.

I just use a $29.99 gas grill from Walmart. Works just fine and not a big deal when some drunken fool falls on it and breaks it (or spills scrambles eggs all over the inside...):skeptical:

got the Coleman, like it a lot. Which reminds me, i might have to clean the grates from last tailgating season, it might be nasty.

Hey now!!! That couldn't possibly be me...ok it was!

But another thing while were talking about grills and breakfast. Vanillathrilla knows what I'm speaking about. Get like a tinfoil muffin pan and spray with spam or whatever that stuff is. Then break an egg in each little muffin spot and then mix it up in each little hole. When it is all done, heat the english muffin on the grill, scoop out the cooked egg and you got an egg mcmuffin...oh and throw a slice of cheese and some salt on there! And bacon too!
