Where we park, everyone tailgates off the back of the vehicles.

Since we park in the first row, if you move the generator out next to the access road, no one will be tailgating within 20 feet at least.

I usually park in the middle of a group of friends, so its not like strangers are getting bombarded with it.

I didn't know Alco's still existed..

I hadn't even heard of them before moving to far northeast Iowa.

I've been eying the Honda 2000 myself. I don't use much electricity much when I tailgate, but overkill is my middle name :jimlad:

Just don't be that guy.. We usually run into one that sets his generator about 50 feet from his own tailgate site and on the other side of his camper. Just so happens, that particular spot is right next to where we are set up.

:biglaugh: I've never had that happen to me, but you see that alot.

Our group actually built a 'muffler' type box to put over the generator to help reduce the noise.

I am looking to build a muffler box for my generator. Not sure what works and does not work. Any advice or good designs on building one?

7.5 Kw Quiet Diesel Onan

From 10 ft way you can barely hear it

And only $7000?

Yeah... he turned this one down due to needing another parking pass .... although he could afford it.

The comments about noise should be taken into account. Some generators are so loud that those near them can't even have a conversation. In the RV lots those with loud ones try to get there early and put them down in the ditch and use long cords. That is always appreciated. A buddy of mine actually collected cans during every tailgate and in a couple of years had enough $ to get a beautiful Honda. Soooo quiet. Soooo nice.

We always shut our on board generator off at night because of noise impacting sleepers.

Dont have one myself but my suggestion is to insulate the inside of the box to kill as much of the sound as possible. Then just make a hole by the exhaust pipe or muffler

What kind of insulation works best?

Honda would be my suggestion, 1000 watt fine for tv , radios, things like that. 2000 or bigger if you are running skillets, coffee makers, any sort of device that creates heat my making a dead short.

I cant really say for sure. Maybe you could ask someone at a lowes or menards or something. I do know that they sell drywall is supposed to be sound proof but not sure who would sell it or anything like that.

The only way to go without ******* off everyone around you is with a Honda and even then they can be annoying. I often find that the crew that has the generator finds it to be loud so sets it away from there tailgate and close to someone else's and I am thinking, "if you think its too loud to have right next to your tailgate, why do you think your neighbor tailgater thinks its fine." Personally, tailgating is getting too much like a living room. Call me old school, but give me a cooler, some beer, a little grill, and a beer pong table an I am good.

This is what I have as well. Awesome generator and very quiet. The ones in your link are way to loud for tailgating, in my opinion. They would definitely tick off your neighbors.
this -- too loud for tailgating

Personally have found the yamaha generator our tailgate uses to be plenty quiet, so theyre a good option too. Its set up right next to our tailgate and is barely noticeable, especially if its on low mode.

But yeah, definitely notice that with some of the louder generators in our lot, dragging their generator way away from them so the rest of the lot gets to hear it.

Do not bring a cheap *** loud generator tailgating. Everyone will hate you. If you can't afford a good one, go without. It's not like it's a necessity - just use your grill.

So basically anything but a Honda is going to be blaring loud?

I've been running an inverter off a car battery in the past and will probably just do that until I can buy a Honda. As someone else said, its a luxury, not a necessity.

EDIT:
Looking at the price of Hondas, I don't know if I could ever justify spending that kind of coin for a recreational generator. I've owned cars that cost less than those things.
