Stupid NCAA rules...

Anything to add??? How about the rule about not calling a time-out when your falling out of bounds, thats just dumb.

That rule is gone effective this year, right? Can no longer call timeout if you're in the air - must have one (or two) feet on the court?

I think that's what the deal is. Or maybe it was just being discussed...

I hope so. That has to be one of the worst rules in college basketball.

How about the over and back line rule? Now that we have a clock to make sure teams have to shoot, over and back is ridiculous. Hey, maybe crossing mid court in 10 seconds is stll fine, but let them play the whole court if they are limited to 35 seconds to shoot.

Good point, I've never thought of the over-and-back rule as a stupid one, but now that you mention it, it is kind of pointless.

The worst is the rule that allowed Kansas, while ISU was shooting and missing the first of a two-shot foul free throw, to rebound the ball, which should have been dead, and throw it down the court for a three-point goal before the referees remembered the true status of the game. And the rules did not allow the referees to correct their gross mistake. That is a vey stupid, rule.

I still don't see an issure with the fifth year transfer rule. If a player graduates before his 5th year, if still eligible, then he would be required to attend graduate school. If an institution does not offer the graduate program in the players field what's he going to do? Get a master degree in something complete unrelated to what his undergrad coursework was? That doesn't make sense either.

Those refs all should have been fired immediately after that game.



Regardless of what the rulebook says, common sense should tell you that you can't score on a dead ball.

Personally, I like the over and back rule. It rewards tough defense by restricting the amount of court that the offense has, to find a release pass out. You will find teams spreading the court even more when they get a lead late in the game and able to sit on their lead if this rule was not in place. The half court line if properly used on defense acts as an additional defender. The over and back rule requires some additional thinking in what is an ever increasing athletic game. I like it. I absolutely hated our stupid non-thinking athletic style over the last couple years where we would throw away games we should have won.

As far as the jump ball situations, I don't particularly like the alternating arrow nor the jump ball. When a 6 foot point guard ties up a 6'10" PF, a jump ball isn't exactly fair. I always liked the rule used in pick up games. When there's a tie up the defense gets the ball. It rewards good defense. (I guess in loose ball situations you'd still need to use a jump ball or maybe give possesion to the team in their own backcourt.)

I would like to see the rules changed on TV timeouts at five minute mark - make it more flexible so it does not stop game at a key time.

I think that the rule should be changed to the jump ball over the possession arrow. I do understand that the jump ball can be a little unfair, but at the same time I'd rather see the jump ball.. could give more reason for a big guy to go to the floor for a loose ball against a small guy instead of give up on it because he knows the arrow is not in his favor and the other team will keep the ball regardless.

Do not allow the opposing team take a time out between a 2-shot foul or 1-and-1.
