I am surprised at how many schools are dismissing early in and around Cedar Rapids. The storm must be coming...but it is pretty calm in Cedar Rapids right now. Anyone in central or western Iowa getting hit yet?

Northern Iowa schools are being told to hold kids until the end of the day instead of sending them home.

It's cold & nasty out there.

Cedar Rapids schools are closing at 11:15 today. They better hope the storm doesn't hit prior to that because it would be tough to defend sending elementary school aged kids into tough conditions!

Schools never win in these situations though! Calling school upsets people...holding kids or making them come to school in storms upsets people as well! Guess that is why those superintendents make the money!

Yeah, nasty here - wind is quite powerful.

I like it - seems when CU visits Ames - we've got some nasty weather for 'em.

Yeah...campus sucks to walk around...it was snowing straight sideways for awhile...I don't think it'd be that bad if it wasn't so freakin' windy...

It looks nasty here....but I don't see any Des Moines schools letting out early yet. I just don't understand why it always has to snow on the days that we have a mens basketball game up in Ames.

I've missed the last 2 home games and am really looking forward to tonight. I hope the weather doesn't prevent me from making the trip to Ames tonight.

I drove in about 9am, it was not that bad I did not think. Normal crappy Iowa winters.

Doing pretty much nothing in Urbandale. Windy, that's about it. Was snowing for about 15 minutes a while ago - but not even enough to cover the cars.

Looks like the only system is up north around Storm Lake, over to Ft Dodge.

I was just in W. Des Moines and I-35/80 wasn't bad and 235 wasn't bad either, just be aware.

Has anyone been on I-35 around Ames today? I'm hoping to leave Altoona around 3:00 this afternoon.

I just took my dog out and it's a beautiful 60 degrees and sunny here in St. Louis. That prompted me to check the weather when I got back inside, wondering how long it could possibly last. Looks like I get about 4 hours of it before that crap y'all are talkin about rolls through here.
