Also, there's no way you can do that story justice within the framework of network TV.
I'm still hope they leave out the "Hey, I know what will save us, a gangbang!" scene. It was really bizarre, and a low point in the book.

"I am Pennywise, the dancing clown. You are Georgie. So now we know each other, correct? So now you can take my balloon."

I, Antihawk240, will now call my childhood therapist from 26 years ago and tell him I am having a relapse. The anxiety, fear of storm drains and hatred for clowns are starting all over again. Thank you CyclonePride I appreciate it...........not a shot I watch this movie. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice......no sir.

Spoiler alert lol.

I'm mixed on that. Weird and uncomfortable, but it made sense within the context of the childhood/adulthood theme. I suppose they could have escaped by all having their first beer.

The only thing dumb about the movie was the ending where they kill that spider thing or whatever. I thought that was just weird.

Derp. Pennywise freaked the **** out of me as a kid. Still does. That said, I really hope they don't make Pennywise an obviously freaky clown. Just make him a normal clown, one that you might think could be hired for a kid's party. That was part of the original horror. Don't make the horror over the top with gore and obvious Hollywood tactics, just make it suspenseful.

Did it really, though? I always thought it defied logic. "Look, I know that everybody's stressed because there's an evil, monstrous entity in these sewers, that wants to kill us. I think we need to have an orgy... you know, to calm us down." It stuck out like a sore thumb, to me.

Oh, it was a bit of a showstopper when I originally read it. Eventually I suppose I accepted it as the turtle talking to them.

Stephen King book adaptations into movies are really really bad or really really good. I am shocked there are so many that think the tv version of IT was scary. I think it's awful. Hope this version is better. And Pet Sematary is being remade...if they do it right, that will scare the **** out of people. The original movie was good but not great. Get some known actors and good director attached (it was one rumored that Guillermo Del Toro was interested) and it could be awesome.

The Dark Tower adaptation SHOULD be awesome. We'll see.

Personally, 'Salem's Lot is the scariest book I've ever read. Movie is pretty bad but I'm not sure how it could be made into a great movie without the movie being like 5 hours long. That's the biggest change from books to movies for his adaptations...in his books he really lets you get to know characters and like them but in movies you have to cut a lot of that stuff out.

Best Adaptations of King books:

Misery
Stand By Me
Shawshank Redemption
Carrie
Green Mile

Worst:

The Shining (this book is incredibly scary. I don't think the movie is scary at all and King absolutely HATES what Kubrick did with the movie)
IT
Dreamcatcher (JUST AWFUL)

Kubrick's Shining is just different than the book. I love both of them, but agree that the book is much more sinister. King could do more with what's going on in Jack's mind than could be shot on film, even by someone as talented as Kubrick.

I thought The Mist and 1408 were both well done, too. 11/22/63 wasn't bad either.

However, Under the Dome is the worst King adaptation I've ever seen. I rarely stop watching a series unless it's just abysmal. I made it just over 1 season with that dumpster fire.

On topic, It was the scariest book I ever read, and also my favorite. I am really looking forward to the movie (s).

I think I need to re-read the book. I didn't like the TV series, maybe I just had a completely different view of the story from the book. Although I have to admit that I couldn't quite picture an evil clown staring up at me from a storm sewer grate. I did get a kick out of the match lighting (or whatever they used for flame) part. Boys.

Also, the part about them seeing the big spider made me think of the title story in the "Night Shift" book.
