We have some irrational *** fans.
First, let's take a look at NDSU. They have won 25 straight games. At any level, that is an accomplishment. In that time, they have beat numerous FBS teams. They had Craig Bohl for the last 10 years, and hired within for their most recent coach. They've had continuity and consistency, and haven't had to spend off-seasons implementing new schemes, but rather can focus their time on execution and fundamentals.
Then let's look at our program. In the midst of a nearly complete overhaul on the offensive side of the ball with a brand new coaching staff. By midway through the first quarter, our two best offensive players were hurt. On defense, we were incredibly inexperienced in several positions. We started two new linebackers, two new safeties, and our d-line is thin due to injuries and defections. Again, we were going against an offense that's run the same thing for the last 10 years.
As for our players "quitting", I didn't see any of that. Show me one play where a guy didn't get great effort. I didn't see any. Sure, we had guys out of position and missing tackles, but that doesn't equate to lack of effort or quitting.
We got beat by a better team, in what was an atrocious situation in terms of matchups. If we can pull one off against KSU, we are 1 and 1 and that's about where we'd hope to be. If not, the train can go off the track quickly, but it's early to give up.
