It almost seems to me that half the new posters are semi converted hawk fans. I liked this site better before we were the hot thing after beating okie state..

I went over the ledge last year. I was looking for a rock to grab on the way down...still don't see one. I'm not sure how anyone can have anything more than blind hope. I'm not mad, I just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope for the staff and kids and loyal fans that it turns around but that doesn't mean I will lie and say I see it happening.

...a couple of injuries shouldn't be a reason for a Big 12 team to get smacked around by anyone from D-1AA.

Competitive game? Sure. Yielding 500 yards of offense; and gaining less than 300 at home? No way.

It's not acceptable to lose to a FCS team. It's also not acceptable I act like an absolute douscher and calling out individual players, coaches, and even freaking CW. Some of you are real pieces of work and make this site unbearable during the last 48 hours.

I'm just as ****** as you guys are that we got man handled by NDSU but I don't feel the need to put every single thought that came to my mind in a new thread.

Halfof these threads seem to be started by posters I've never even seen before. Are you the trolls that just come out of the woodwork when things go bad?

I agree with most of what you said. Most. I agree that calling out players individually is completely unacceptable. These are kids who chose to play for Iowa State, and for that they have my respect. It is pathetic for an adult to criticize a young man over an internet message board because he feels he isn't good enough to play. And even if the player did not play well, or made a mistake during a game, I feel it is because the coaching staff failed him or did not put him into a position to succeed. I also agree that posters calling out CW is unacceptable, and downright bizarre, though most of it seems to be anonymous trolls.

However, I feel it is completely acceptable to call out the coaching staff. They are adults, and are paid professionals whose salary is funded by us. The success and failure of this program can be directly laid at their feet. With the level of loyalty of this fanbase, and with what we have given financially and emotionally, it is our right to express displeasure about the product being put on the field. I disagree with the manner in which some posters express their anger, but many post well thought-out, rational, evidence based complaints. And they should be able to. I like Paul Rhoads, he seems like a nice guy, but my loyalty is to Iowa State, and it is becoming very distressing watching what is happening to our program.

Because the officials screwed up.

The call on the field was Personal Foul - Targeting (with the head), which is an automatic ejection and replay cannot overturn it, making that 5-minute replay irrelevant and a waste of time.

What they should have called was Personal Foul - Unnecessary Roughness, which is not an automatic ejection, but can be reviewed and changed to Targeting and an ejection if necessary. While we don't necessarily like the personal foul, none of us could really argue against it because it was a late/unnecessary hit - but at least on the replay it was clear it wasn't a targeting foul. Once targeting was called, his day was done whether he did it or not.
I'm pretty sure you're wrong

Very well said.

Some of the posters that wanted to give Rhoads a lifetime blank check 3 years ago are now calling for him to be fired. No one likes losing to NDSU by 20 but 1) let's be realistic, no one is getting fired after 1 game (or after this year) and 2) don't make all Cyclone fans looks like idiots by freaking the f out over ONE game. Yes it sucks we lost but the sky hasn't fallen on this program.

A lot of people paid a lot of money thinking this year would be different. The new coaches looked good. The talent was getting better through recruiting. Instead they were surprised it was worse. Getting beat by North Dakota local boys at JTS is an embarrassment to Jack.

I mostly agree, but I disagree that I'm freaking out over ONE game. I'm freaking out over at least the last 13 games. Probably more than that if I go back far enough.

Who said that those of us who aren't attacking everything are "happy" about anything?!

CloneVet:

2a. Was curious, when I subtracted the two long runs from NDSU's rushing totals, they ran 41 times for a 3.7 ypc average. That's a respetable performance on 41 of 43 carries--and at least one of those two was at least partly due to a new player being out of position.

Unfortunately, you can't take those two long runs away. But I agree the defense was decent against the run...except for some major lapses. Which really hurt.

But we knew last year would be a struggle. We were told we were building for the future. I can take a down year. But back to back awful years will be tough to swallow. But let's not give up completely after 8% of the season.

Wally himself said that with this young, but athletic defense we'd probably see us give up some big plays because we're out of position, but that we'd also probably make some big plays too with our athleticism.

We did in fact give up some big plays, problem was, we didn't make any on our end. No turnovers and one sack isn't enough big plays, sorry.

Agreed. Everyone and their brother (including the actual coaches) knew the offense was going to have to put up many more points to offset the young defense. And that didn't happen either. So we were 0-2 in "things we had to do" to win. And that's how you lose by 20 to a 1AA team.

We must be the only Power 5 conference team that requires multiple "rebuilding" years after going a whopping 6-7.
I don't see a lot of people jumping off a ledge. I see a lot of really ****** off fans that have been asked to be patient, support the team financially and otherwise, and are tired of the same terrible product being put out on the football field any given Saturday. Enough is enough.

AD needs to stop demanding excellence and more money from fans when we have been given the same garbage football we have always had. It's like cable. You pay more for the same inferior product you always had. We got absolutely embarrassed by a div 2 team for the second season in a row. Inexcusable and everyone should be ******.

I don't know what goat ISU fans killed or what we ever did to **** off the football Gods but dammit we deserve better.

You don't deserve anything. Even if you give money it's your own fault for investing in a bad product. It's okay to be upset, but don't make it sound like the football team personally owes you something.

Who were you most disappointed in - the offense or the defense?

I was a lurker for awhile..Tried posting for awhile..found out I should read rather than post, as the other posters seem to know a lot more than I do...If I dont have a thousand posts, does that make me a bandwagon fan? I am as ****** as the next guy about Saturday but to call for the coaches head is ridiculous especially one under contract for as long as he is. Guess what we have had over 50,000 in JTS 20 times in a row, that's unprecedented he isn't going anywhere.

1. Mark Mangino will be fine, people ******** about his offense after the first week are stupid.
a. Likely hasn't installed it all yet
b. Threw screen passes because after QB went out maybe they were triple teaming Bibbs (Sam proved this fact), throwing underneath possibly could have made them play honest. Plus they were pinning their ears back rushing the QB, a screen pass can neutralize that by sucking them in and going over the top of them. That's smart playcalling, did it work, no, but it wasn't like we threw 15 wide receiver screens to the flat.
c. when Farniok went down there was a noticeable change.
d. When Bundrage went down, there went our big time deep threat, allowing them to key on Bibbs downfield.
e. The Ints were bad luck for us and good luck for them.
f. Having both Farniok and QB go out as early as they did spelled disaster. I guarantee you they got most of the reps during game week with the new offense being installed. I believe it would have been a dog fight with those two not so much of a laugher.
2. The defense needs help, we all knew this going in. What I do see is a lot of young guys playing, Alton Meeks will have a good career here. The ejection of Cotton Moya was BS, if that's how they are going to call targeting this year, I may say **** college football.

3. Those of you calling CW out for making fun of the NDSU fan need to leave this FREE site immediately of CW needs to start charging for the use of the immense amount of content that this website provides. It would definitely reduce the number of DA's around here. Every one of us would have laughed at that guy calling the score, we all knew it would be a tough game but all of us didn't think we would get beaten down.

Thank you. This is what I was trying to say in a previous thread but you worded it much better

good post, actually if you read the 4000 posts in the NDSU Iowa State thread, you can pick out the "doucher" isu fans pretty easily. What I don't understand is.... Is some of your fanbase not knowledgable enough about college football to know that NDSU is actually quite a good program? maybe that's where the problem lies.
