Looking out our front window and see the huge broken branch in a tree across the street. Definitely it was broken due to the derecho last August.

Since storm season is upon us, was wondering if this would happen to fall on someone else’s property who’s responsible for it cleanup or insurance if damage occurs? Still seeing quite a few of these in the Ames area and I would bet in a lot of other communities that was in the path of the derecho.

Speaking as a Cedar Rapidian...Insurance of the homeowner whose property is damaged will pay for the damage. Insurance will only pay for tree removal if the tree fell on a structure, playsets, fences, just the yard, etc. don't count. YMMV but that was the overwhelming consensus last August.

Old Jack Frost was up to his old tricks here in Ames on Tues night/Wed morning. He got 14 of my pepper plants. Tomato plants just a couple of feet away are fine. Even have pepper plants that are next to the ones that got hit that look fine. Just really strange.

I had mulched already and didn't kill the entire plant in the majority of those that got frost. Am I better off to replace them or let the auxiliary branches from the leaves that didn't get frost take over?

Seems really dry here in Mpls with only .07" this month. Looked at precip since March 1 and it isn't so far off normal though for the extended spring.

So, still spring but mid-summer hot in the northland. 97 yesterday. 98 to 100 this afternoon depending on the forecast you click on for today. And not just a couple day spike either.

And at 99 which beats the record high for June 5th by a whopping 7 degrees.

And dry as hell. And windy as hell. Got shrubs and perennials wilting before I noticed how dry they were.

Few weeks ago I told dh I think it'll be a drought summer. Dry spring and we were a good 2.5 weeks ahead on flower blooming compared to last year. Redbud that bloomed 5/22 last summer was in full bloom 5/3 this year. Glad we put in raised beds and new plants further from house this spring that will need constant watering

Mid to high 80s for the 10 day and minimal rain.

Not exactly sure.
Neighbor swung by the farm the other day. He is into weather history. Said something about Death Valley last year was similar to 1931. Thinks we have another “dust bowl” spell coming in a couple years since everything is an 89 year cycle.

Some folks in Wichita Falls, TX were saying the same thing 6 years ago. Now they have too much water. This year reminds me of a spring we had a few years ago it was so dry on my daughters birthday(June16)we couldn't walk outside on the grass barefoot because the brown blades felt like razors. And we had a tone of 1" cracks in the dirt then. July and August turned fairly wet that year. Hopefully will do it this year.

It hit 100 where I was biking just south of St Paul today.

Out of curiosity, I checked the temp where my buddy lives in suburban Dallas. It was 82.

I just set my personal high temp record for biking on Friday at 97 so decided to let that stand and stayed in most of yesterday.

However, will have to go out today for a fitness ride. Going to take it easy though.

Yikes! Just checked latest NWS forecast for Mpls and it's showing 90's every freakin day till 88 on Saturday. Guys, it's June in the northland for crying out loud! WTF.

And the wind is gusting to 32 mph right now (again) just to make sure ALL of the moisture is sucked out of the fields and yards across the state.
