Curious to what number he planted because most hybrids are fairly robust in their resistance to drought as compared to 45 years ago. Also I guess what ground he is working would affect it also. Growing up we had ground that on a normal year half of it would be no yield because it would be too wet. On years like this year it would out yield everything else by a large margin. Very wet ground. I imagine if what he is saying is true then he must have some dry ground working. Not good.

The issue is that much of Central and Northwest Iowa is in our second year of this abnormally dry weather. Last summer we were able to pull through because we had a full soil profile with plenty of subsoil moisture. We used all of that moisture last summer making a crop so there is nothing left down there for the crops to search for.

And the wind blows like hell everyday, gusts to 40 mph today. It's like August. My lot is 75% deep shade and all of my stuff is wilting and I've been out watering trying to keep it alive. It's a shade desert. I can't every remember water in early to mid-June and I've lived in this abode since 1986. I know, first world problems, but as a garden guy who has several decades invested in this landscape it is at least a real oddity and personal to me. Hoping we don't get a water ban, city water is from Mpls and Miss River but it is even drier up north and rivers are low for this time of year. Betting it gets crazy by August.

7:45, time to move sprinklers.

Not exactly sure.

Water at night so it doesn’t evaporate as quickly. Also allows you to hook to your neighbors spigot and run their water bill up.

And, of course, this spring the city sent us notices on new higher water rates. I'm always at the below X number of gallons minimum charge but bet not this quarter.

Drove by park lawns and the city golf course today. Lots of parched yellow grass and weeds. Looks like August. Not sure leaving it longer would have helped, house near me on the market as a teardown has really long grass, mostly crunchy yellow/brown.

I have a hardly used rain gauge for sale. Don't seem to have a need for it anymore. Let me know if you need it. o_O

Looking forward to the next week. We need a good consistent week of soaking rains to get us back on track.

Doesnt look like that much rain is in the schedule, but i'm sure loving seeing a high in the 70s.

After working out I thought a bird pee'd on me in the parking lot. Turns out it was an actual rain sprinkle. About a drop per square foot for 5 seconds.

@FDWxMan whats the setup for today looking like in the enhanced risk area for severe storms? Super cells or linear storms? Is it going to be feast or famine?

Pretty quiet so far, certainly could use the rain, but if it had to come with wind and hail, I'm hoping we pass on it.
Let's hope Sunday brings us at least a little moisture... thoughts on that weather guys? Up in the Algona area and man, we're dry. Hard to believe a forecasted 60% rain chance 3 days early.
