I always used this brand called "river rat." pretty cheap, used to be able to get them at walmart, and they have ropes lining them if you want to tie up together or to a cooler tube.

Sweet idea. I've never known why more people don't do this. They've done a really nice job of setting up City Park in the "The City" to accommodate kayaks, canoes and tubers. Skip the Apple River I say.

FYI, it's Scandinavian Days this weekend in "The City." Load up on Kumla and Ham and float back home.

I've tubed from close to Ada Hayden down to the spillway in Ames and it can be very low.

Take the drive up to Webster City and float the Boone River. Much better there.

Just canoed the Boone and Des Moines rivers this last weekend. Waterlevels were perfect for paddling.

Might not be a bad idea, so many options though haha

and don't be a *****, go over the dam.

Or just be sure your making a wise decision, the dam your referring to has killed 2 people.

I can also attest to the Boone being lovely right now. Did Briggs Woods to Tunnel Mill canoeing last Wednesday and Tunnel to Boone Forks on Memorial Day.

Bought one a few years ago, I think at Menards, yellow and blue and it had a head rest. The head rest is nice because with a tire tube your neck gets sore, also had one or two beverage holders.

I would go to Trickles Automotive on Lincoln Way and buy a tube, they are about $15 and you won't pop them. I've seen multiple River Rats pop going down the skunk. Also it will take you forever from story city to ames. A little north of peterson pits to ames usually takes about 5-6 hours with some stops on the sand bars for beverages

Good suggestion, tubing is significantly slower than canoeing so you'll want trim that trip down since by water Story to Ames is 17 miles.

What dam are you referring to?
